Yeah I've used Audacity, just kind of manual if I want to combine say 103 files into 5. I've used others that you can specify a list of files to join (with sketchy results).
I'll give some of the suggestions a try.
Mostly it's a result of the crappy old audiobook player I use on iOS. It's so old working with too large or too small of audio files is wonky, but it's the only audiobook player I've found that has the one feature I really want (which is to have a sleep timer that gets reset when the phone is moved). So I have to work with whatever I get to get it into medium sized files of a few hours.
