I lived in Brisbane for 6 years so definitely feel your pain. It was so annoying having the sun rise at 4am and set at 6pm. Not to mention the stupidly of Brisbane being the farthest east capital yet being an hour behind Sydney and Melbourne and a half hour behind Adelaide.
The problem is the state is so large and the north doesn't need DST. They really need to split the state into 2 or 3 time zones but the government seems to think that would be impossible.
