I feel he had faith in Elliott (I don't know if you give up a 2nd and possibly 3rd round pick for a guy you have no faith in) but Johnson was brought in more for insurance in the case of injury and lack of a goaltender in the system that is ready. The peaks of both goaltenders were just good enough to overcome the valleys however that's not exactly a blueprint of success in the NHL as you may be able to get a bottom seed with inconsistent goaltending like this but you aren't going to win a division or Stanley cup when your goaltender play is a coin flip on a nightly basis.
