I don't understand how you can say that Treliving didn't execute on the goalie front.
Johnson was excellent last November/December.
We rode Elliott into the playoffs from February on.
The options last summer were:
- over pay for Marc-André Fleury
- over pay for Ben Bishop
Treliving found a new option in Brian Elliott for a 2nd round pick (and a conditional pick if resigned).
Fleury lost his starters job in Pittsburgh this year; Bishop's stock fell so hard that the Kings acquired him for a 5th round pick to be a backup.
Did Treliving find a diamond in the rough that stood on his head leading us to the finals and then the division and a Vezina trophy? Nope. But seriously if that's your standard, no one will live up to those expectations.
Treliving made this team better, he's not sacrificing the future to chase a run now when we aren't ready.
We all knew Elliott and Johnson were stop gaps, yes they faltered at the end, but in fairness we didn't expect them to plan a parade down 17th Ave either.
