What kind of player is Ryan? Not big enough to replace Bouma or Hathway and isn't talented enough to replace Gaudreau or even Byron in Montreal.

The comparison is terrible, I agree, however the Flames need to keep rewarding players that put in grade A effort. This is a two way contract. At worst they have someone in the AHL banging bodies. Give the kid a chance to prove himself. That is all anyone wants at this level.
