I have both cards, and I love the insurances come with the card.

The Gold card is only good for getting the bonus points, especially now the sign up bonus is 20k instead of normal 15k. I usually cancel it in a few months so I keep the points without get charged for annual fee.

The SPG card is the one I keep and use a lot. The SPG points are great. I use this card everywhere I can to earn SPG points. I stayed in this beautiful hotel last time http://www.starwoodhotels.com/prefer...ropertyID=3088 3000 spg points per night. I did not pay a penny. everthing was covered by the 3000 points.
