Fish tacos and In-N-Out are my San Diego go-to meals, but I highly recommend a day trip to Tijuana as long as you get away from the tourists as quickly as possible. If you're interested in heading down there, I've got some suggestions, but won't clutter your thread otherwise.

Edit: One of the Tijuana places that I was going to recommend is a street taco place called Tacos el Gordo. Some of the finest tacos you'll ever have. The carne asada tacos and lengua (beef tongue) tacos are my favorites, but they're all good other than the brain, which I haven't tried. Anyway, I just found out that they have a location in Chula Vista 10 minutes from downtown San Diego, and it's supposed to be nearly as good as the TJ location, so you may want to check that out.
