What if they were excited to take the ball home and give it to their little gaffer? They didn't snatch it from his hands. My kid would be upset if I gave away a puck i'd caught but no one in the rink would know what happens after the fact.
If the player want's it to go to a kid then it should, most people are aware that is happening as the player will point or wait for eyecontact before throwing a souvenier, and there should be no one scooping it.
