Certainly not as in your face, as seeing the glide slope being way off, but you would think monitoring distance/altitude would be top of mind while descending through cloud cover toward minimums.

Good point, but without knowing the WestJet SOP's I'm not sure if both pilots would have been looking outside or if one was looking and one was monitoring the instruments and could catch the scenario above.
