The CHL season has been under way for a couple of weeks now, so we should probably get a discussion thread going for the CHL prospects.
Most of last season's CHL guys have graduated to the pros (Bennett to Calgary; Kanzig, Klimchuk, Carroll, and Smith to Stockton -- for now), and Eric Roy wasn't offered a contract; so most of this year's crop of CHLers are new to the Flames organization. Only Mason McDonald is returning from last season.
Here's this year's list (players in red are already under contract with the Flames)...
- Mason McDonald (G) : 19 years-old (AHL eligible, 2016-17) : Round 2, 34th overall, 2014 -- Charlottetown Islanders
- Rasmus Andersson (D) : 18 years-old (AHL eligible, 2016-17) : Round 2, 53rd overall, 2015 -- Barrie Colts
- Pavel Karnaukhov (LW) : 18 years-old (AHL eligible, 2017-18) : Round 5, 136th overall, 2015 -- Calgary Hitmen
- Andrew Mangiapane (LW) : 19 years-old (AHL eligible, 2016-17) : Round 6, 166th overall, 2015 -- Barrie Colts
- Riley Bruce (D) : 18 years-old (AHL eligible, 2017-18) : Round 7, 196th overall, 2015 -- North Bay Battalion
- Nick Schneider (G) : 18 years-old (AHL eligible, 2017-18) : Undrafted UFA signing -- Medicine Hat Tigers
Also, Kanzig, Klimchuk, and Smith could be returned to their CHL teams as over-agers if things aren't working in Stockton. Oliver Kylington could also be assigned to Brandon at some point. It's highly unlikely, but Sam Bennett is also eligible to play in Kingston if he struggles in Calgary.
