If you've got a pair of binoculars, it's really easy to make a partial eclipse viewer. Just cut two holes in the lid of a box (banker's box works great) that closely fit the binocular viewpiece ends, and another hole where you can look in the side of the box (or just use the handle hole if using a banker's box). Point the binoculars directly at the sun, and you'll see the shape of the sun on the back wall of the box as two circles of light. It will change and become crescent as the moon passes across it. We made one for the partial eclipse a couple summers ago.
