CBC is a media company in the business of attracting viewers. If they reasonably believe the behaviours of an employee will harm their ability to carry out that business then, subject to human rights laws, it's completely appropriate for them to fire that employee.
Chances are Gomeshi had a contract that detailed events that would allow for termination, and the lawsuit will be based on contractual interpretation. Outside of a contract, any employer can fire an employee at any time without cause provided sufficient notice or compensation in lieu of notice is given (at least in BC)
