It's funny, I've thought the same thing. I don't know of many players that have switched from D to O but I know Byfuglien has been used as both through his career. Might not be a terrible experiment to try for a couple of games.

Probably the best example is Red Kelly, who was outstanding at both defense and centre - I think he even won a Norris trophy before being moved to centre. Brent Burns is also a good modern example. For the Flames, probably the most successful example was Paul Reinhart, who was often moved from defense to centre during playoffs.
