Default GAME 7: STAMPEDERS at Toronto

Calgary Stampeders at Toronto Argonauts
BMO Field
Thursday Aug.3
Kickoff: 5:30 p.m. MDT
TV: TSN, ESPN3

Can the Stamps get any better than last week's game against Hamilton? I'd say they can. They put 60 points on the board while most of their starters like QB Bo Levi Mitchell went to the sideline after the first half, Jerome Messam rested after he collected his 3rd rushing TD, R Kamar Jorden leaving the game early after another player rolled on his leg. Marquay McDaniel and Lamar Durant wasn't even used a lot.

Argos, on the other hand is coming off a disappointing lost to Saskatchewan Roughriders and they are playing at home that hasn't been a factor so far due to less than stellar attendance. The rejuvenated Ricky Ray been having a good season though with over 300 yards passing every game early this season. It helps that he's got SJ Green to throw the ball to.

OFFENSE:

All 3 quarterbacks Mitchell, Buckley and Stanzi threw for 318 yards combined but it could have been higher. They didn't really want to run the score so much but Dickenson figures to let Buckley loose and let him make plays even though the score was already a blowout. Buckley recorded his first passing TD in his CFL career and the best part was he threw it to another former University of Calgary Dinosaurs alumni Anthony Parker.

Receiver Marken Michel replaced the injured Kamar Jorden and did not disappoint the coaching staff and the fans.Michel caught 6 passes for 190 yards and 1 TD. He could have scored 2 more early in the game which Messam punched in after Michel caught those beautiful catches. His TD catch was a thing of beauty too. R Davaris Daniels finally caught more balls last week, 6 catches for 60 yards. Michel was named one of the Player of the Week on Monday.

RB Jerome Messam rushed for 91 yards in 11 carries and 3 rushing TDs before leaving the game to rest. Rookie RB Ante Milanovich-Litre carried the ball 6 times for 26 yards and he scored his first CFL rushing TD.

How strange was the last week's game? OL Spencer Wilson who admitted never catching a ball ever caught the ball on the end zone for 2-points convert.

DEFENSE:

There was nothing spectacular happens on the defensive side. No one really stands out because the whole defensive team played well chasing Zac Collaros and not giving him any open receivers all game. DE Charleston Hughes had the lone QB sack in the game. LB Maleki Harris led the defense with 5 defensive tackles followed by DB Jamar Wall with 4. DB Shaquille Richardson made the difference earlier with one interception and he returned the ball all the way to the end zone. That INT TD suck the life out of Hamilton's offense after that.

SPECIAL TEAM:

The whole special team played exceptionally well last game vs Hamilton. Coverage did not give Speedy Banks much room to return the ball, while returner Roy Finch was a nightmare for Ticats' special team coverage. Finch torched them for a 97 yards punt return touchdown and was very slippery all game.

Kicker Rene Paredes only tried one field goal attempt in the game and was good. He was perfect in field goal conversion though. I don't even remember seeing Rob Maver all game wwhich is a good thing. The less we see Rob Maver punts the ball means the team is doing a good job scoring. Maver actually punted the ball 5 times during the game.

ROSTER MOVES:

DB Brandon Smith will be back in the lineup after being activated from the 6-games injured list. Rookie R Reggie Begelton who was amazing during the pre-season before he got injured will replace R Kamar Jorden, who will be on a 6-games injured list starting tomorrow's game. The other player coming out of the lineup is LB Maleki Harris. He's been put on a 1-game injured list. Harris been playing well this season so something definitely happened to him last week like a minor injury to be scratch. DB Josh Bell will still miss another game due to his injury so it means we will see rookie Tunde Adeleke as a starting safety again.

************************************************** ******

I am sure Stampeders can beat the Argonauts easily BUT for some reason strange things always happens whenever they play the Argonauts and whenever they play in Toronto. Every time they play the Argos, they make boneheaded penalties and discipline just comes out of the window. Playing in Toronto is the same thing. Anyways hopefully they continue their strong plays tomorrow and show the league who is the best team in the league.

GO STAMPS GO!!!!
