For perspective: Gretzky scored 205 points in 1985. That same year Mark Messier was #12 in NHL scoring with 101 points—that is twelve players over 100 points in a single season. The #12 scorer from this season was Blake Wheeler with 74 points.
I don't believe there will ever be another 200-point player. The problem is not just that the game has changed so dramatically to favour defense, it is also that the gap between the best and average players is much, MUCH more narrow.
