Spoons would be alright (five of diamonds for Pike is good) and Rapalas are awesome...if you can consider spin fishing awesome! I would recommend a fly rod and some streamers for pike and then enjoy them hammering them.

I know that Pike fishing might not be as well thought of by a lot of "serious" anglers who only want trout in these parts, but fishing top water for Pike (spin or fly) is pretty exciting. You see your lure moving along the top and then a swirl as the pike is agitated and going to hit it! It's pretty good, and you can get some big Pike around southern Alberta, and of course most of the really good fishing doesn't open for a month and a half.

If you're going and haven't gone for Pike before, bring along some forceps or needlenose pliers. They have teeth and you want to keep your fingers away if you can avoid that!
