Total shots against just means the goalie played a lot of games. Just like the goalie with the record for most losses is just a good goalie with good longevity.
Shots against per game along with shot attempts and shot danger zone should be what we are looking at.

It really needs to be emphasized that the number of games a goalie plays in a season is very important. Talbot played too many games last season. Goalies who lead their teams deep into the playoffs don't play as much as Talbot did.
