would have it be a sequel. Which is weird with it copying so much from the original. I didn't see Keifer in the trailer, so maybe they are hiding a big portion of the plot.

I bet it will kind of be both.
Current day med students find an old journal of one of the past characters. They decide to recreate the experiments. The S hits the fan and they track down Kiefer for some answers.
