The difference is that this offseason, the team will have money and flexibility. Honestly, I would put greater stock in the Flames attempting to trade for a youngish middle six RW instead of going the UFA route. Think the Hamilton trade but for a RW instead. That would leave Versteeg without a job and would leave the Flames in a greater position to compete for the division and the Stanley Cup.

I fully expect Lazar to take Versteeg's spot in the lineup on the 3rd line RW next year.
