Golden State is a ridiculous, freak team that should dominate for the next five years, but beyond that the competitive balance is pretty-much what it should be; there's lots of rising and falling in the next tier of the league, and the luxury tax repeater rate is going to make it tougher for super-teams to stay together over the long-term.
Cleveland, for example: they'll be the first team to hit the repeater rate tax this season, and it's going to result in them paying crazy taxes to keep their team together; retaining Kyle Korver for, say, $10 million a season could cost them an additional $40 million in taxes. They apparently lost money last season even with a championship run, so getting knocked out earlier than the finals this year could be enough to make Dan Gilbert flinch and blow up the team.
We'll see how it works, but this is when the competitive balance approach of the previous CBA negotiation finally kicks in.
