I keep reading these reviews online about this rod and that rod being the best thing I’ve ever casted and all this bull crap. Every time I go in a different fly shop I ask them: “what is the best of the best you offer in your shop’s opinion?” I promise you almost every single time it has been a different answer. Each fly shop has certain rods that they favor and think are the best. There are also different bloggers and fly fishing contributors out there who will tell you that the Sage One, or Thomas and Thomas Solar, or Mystic Reaper blah, blah, blah are the best rods available. Again, that’s a bunch of bull crap.

There are only going to be a select few really good casters who are able to tell the most subtle differences in how a fly rod throws. These are the casters who, with little effort, can place a seventy foot cast, in 25 mph winds, into a spot about 5″x 5″with less than three false casts to a cruising permit. Then they can pick up and cast with their other arm just as well. These are the rod makers and a few of the folks that sell the rods. These are the guides who are casting fly rods two-hundred plus days out of the year. More than likely this is not you.
