Sure $5.3M seems a lot if it was for 3-5 years maybe. But it's 7 years. You ger a very good d-man with plenty of upside signed such that when you might be contending and he's in his prime his cap it is a paltry $5.3M.
You are essentially trading some cap space now (when you can afford it) for cap space latter, when you will need it.
