Just to be perfectly clear, CEC/ARC is only going to automate turning the receiver on and off. Well, afaik anyway. While super cool, it may not be worth the money for a new receiver.

ARC also transmits the audio from the tv(if you have something plugged into the TV HDMI) back to the receiver, which is the main point. You can also control receiver volume with the TV remote.
