I'm looking at a new commuter bike - most have rigid front suspension (I'd kill for something with lockout) but the MEC one has a carbon fork.

Does a carbon fork really make that much of a ride difference vs a rigid one?

If anyone has long term experience with an Alfine 11 drivetrain and how an IGH holds up in the winter I'd love to know.
