This doesn't sound like it is comparable to the US women's soccer complaints where it is my understanding that they are paid a pittance compared to the US Men's team, yet are far more profitable.
I'd have to imagine the US women's hockey team isn't exactly raking in the dough.

Sounds like they only get paid during the 6 months leading up to the Olympics. Otherwise they get nothing.
