China, I think, wants to grow and establish itself as a serious world-leading power with legitimacy and recognition in the eyes of the Global South on the basis of being a peaceful and commerce-oriented influence on the world. This is obviously good for that.

Iran also recently had a state visit to China to build that relationship, and Iran just announced that they've discovered they have the world's second largest discovered deposits of lithium. There's a good chance that they are going to join BRICS+ along with the Saudis. These would both be important relationships for China in terms of access to resources, and if they both join BRICS+ it will be a major blow to the petro-dollar and the dollar standard generally.

Considering the US has been taking very aggressive positions with China economically, China's going to keep making friends with whoever they need to as a matter of securing a pathway to continuing their own growth and development.
