You sure about the 6 metre part? (assuming 'm' = meters) If so there are a 100's of illegal decks in my neighborhood as every one of them that I've seen is about 4 feet off the property line. At 6 metres I'd be allowed a deck of only about 5 feet wide down the middle of my backyard.
