I haven't played it yet and just wondering if I need to start there or not.
It is, but the story in these games really isn't the main draw. It's more about the journey, the gameplay, the emergent open world, that kind of thing. Literally the first quest you receive after getting out of the tutorial area is "Go Beat the Final Boss" -- and you can go try, if you want! You'll probably die, but that kind of sums up the whole point of the game -- it's up to you to figure everything out. That whole "just figure out a way to do it, we don't really care" attitude extends to everything, the exploration, combat, puzzles, progression... it's brilliant and there's nothing else really like it.

If you have a Switch and haven't played Breath of the Wild, it's as essential a game as there's ever been. But I don't think playing it before hand will be necessary to enjoy this one.
