Why 2005? Look at 2004. Modest Mouse and Scissor Sisters weren't stars. It's the same story almost ever year. Go back to the beginning and they had Gil Scot Heron and Patti Smith who were critical darlings but not household names.
What's wrong with unproven performers? I'm glad they don't just have flavour of the month hitmakers on.
