I guess we don't really know what happened behind closed doors and Markstrom is obviously coming from a place of frustration.

The comments (which might be blown out of proportion) by the media don't necessarily sit well with me though. A couple of reasons made me disappointed that he conveyed his displeasure towards management in a public setting:

1) When he struggled last year, the team made him a top priority and defended him tooth and nail. They did everything to diffuse his poor play and kept saying all the right things about his game. The org came out in the summer and publicly announced their confidence in him and believed he would get back to form (even if fans were skeptical).

2) Conroy is a rookie GM. He is not seasoned at this and perhaps he made a mistake or a wrong call on how he approached Markstrom. By all accounts the GM is a great person who values personal connections he has with his players. He's always been professional and approachable, and you can tell he values Marky as a person. I think someone with his reputation should get the benefit of the doubt even if something didn't go as planned.

Top this off on the eve before the Kipper ceremony and it just seems to deflate some of the excitement. When you hear Kipper talk of his time here, he is very vocal on how well he was treated and how great the organization is. I do believe Marky has probably had a similar treatment and has been a valued member of the organization. While it's obviously media speculation that he might now request a trade, it just seems very knee jerk considering how they've defended him and valued his contributions.

Once again, I preface this by not knowing anything that happened behind closed doors.
