Are you using the built in wifi on Shaw's modem? I had mine on the main floor of our two storey (2200 sq ft) and the wifi in the bonus room sucked. I decided to try out my old Netgear Nighthawk router and now wifi is great everywhere.
In summary their modem sucks as a wifi router, cheapest is probably to get a decent router.
