While I have sympathy for Anderson, I think this award would be better served by being an award for actual accomplishments on the ice after overcoming adversity, or awarded more often to the players that show sportsmanship and dedication on the ice.

Its almost completely been devolved at this point to "What's the biggest tragedy a player went through?".

And I believe the NHL should encourage sympathy and share these stories, but a trophy is not really the right way to go about it IMO.
