I don't see the issue.
The Winter Classic is still the premier game that is the made for TV event.
These secondary events aren't for TV but to bring the game to other locations for the in-person experience.
Having been to the one in Calgary I can say it was a great time, and it is a much cooler experience in person then it is on TV. As long as the games keep selling out, and the fan bases keep enjoying going I don't see too much of an issue.
That is why Chicago in that game is even more ridiculous in my opinion, the Stadium Series games are supposed to be more fan service and you have to think that the Minnesota fans would have loved North Stars vs Wild.
Hell even Mighty Ducks vs Wild would have worked, we all know that the real Mighty Ducks started in District 5 Minnesota
