Well I'm sorry you disagree and feel I'm misinformed, but I did say before that I felt that Sven needed to simmer a little more before his call-up. I didn't suggest to put him on a rocket to Mars and fire him off the team.

I am aware of the play in Adirondack and while I did miss last nights game so I didn't see what Sven did, I have watched the rest of them and many of them were the Baertschi of old. A few games, I don't even recall seeing him and checked the official scoresheet to see if he was playing. He had a better game against the Rampage and I'm guessing a good one against the Comets. So he's had two significant recent games. But so has Hanowski, Knight, Poirier and Reinhart. Could have been a choice between the 4 (as Emile just came back).

I'm sure each prospect was given a list of things to work on and some players came into this year playing a different way, different style, different hunger. Hanowski is almost a complete 180 from his play of last year. Not as dramatic as Jooris, but almost in the same realm. They came in with something to prove. Baertschi was showing the status quo. I'm not in the mindset that status quo is enough to get the call and I am even concerned that if he hasn't met all the goals, that this call up and realistically demotion once players become healthy might be a set back. We've seen in him before that demotions are hard on him so I would have rather avoided that. He just started correcting his on ice puck issues and now they call him up and maybe in a week send him back. I'm not a fan of this decision with players who have shown in the past they don't respond to this recall/demotions well.

There's a few players in Addy who are just not having things connect this year, leading to their rough start. New place, new players, new system, new coach. There are struggles and some players are responding differently then others. One is no secret my favorite and someone I support hugely: Joni Ortio. Should the Flames need to recall a goaltender, I really wouldn't want Ortio going up at this point. He's not playing well at all and doesn't look like the same guy from last year. Sven I think struggled with this too as did Knight to start the year, Reinhart up until recently and even Granlund took awhile to fire up. And don't get me started on the defence. There must be a new system there because they look lost most nights. So I'm not singling out Baertschi in anyway.

If I wanted to be a real jerk, I could suggest perhaps Baertschi was called up because the Addy Flames are now down to 11 players eligible to play and they didn't want to remove the offense completely from the team. Losing a Reinhart, Hanowski or Knight could be more detrimental to the team then Baertschi. Like many have said, there are two sides to the coin. This could be a reward, this could be what they did with Hanowski late last year as his ELC was expiring and he was due for his RFA. 15 of our prospects are going to be RFA's after this season including Ferland, Baertschi, Jooris, Knight, Van Brabant, Agostino, Hanowski, Arnold and Reinhart. That's alot of guys to have that conversation with and keep tabs on. I could see them getting an early start in the process so come March-May they are doing a lump of meetings to send out qualifying offers.
