It's basically a tab that plays along with you and is much more accurate than most text tabs you find online. You can also hear if a song is accurate in the first place.

Why it's a great learning tool is that it's basically Rocksmith except that it allows you to see the entire song and play any sections you want by a click of the mouse or to isolate tracks and instruments and change the timing, etc.

You could argue that you don't have the validation of playing along to Rocksmith where it tracks the notes you play as correct/incorrect but Guitar Pro does something better in that it teaches you to know if you played something wrong by ear in the first place so you don't need a videogame telling you that you played the wrong note.
