It's the job of the government to communicate a consistent and clear message and in this regard they failed. While on one hand they did not about people in high risk groups getting the shots first - they also scared the crap out of everyone and basically slammed anyone that wasn't going to get a shot.
Just a week ago Dr. David Butler Jones and Leona Aglukkaq stood before the press in this city and said people that don't get the shot are "needlessly putting themselves and others at risk." Aglukkaq went on to state that up to 35% of us would get sick if as many Canadians didn't as possible didn't get the vaccine.
Butler Jones told the Herald Herald, if roughly half of Canadians refuse to get the shot, businesses could be short-staffed for the Christmas rush and intensive care units at hospitals could have trouble keeping up with the crush.
That was the message that Canadians heard loud and clear and reacted to. Any messages re. priority groups was secondary. It was a massive communications blunder and one of the most poorly executed campaigns I've ever witnessed.
