So, i'm doing fairly routine things on the computer (word, adobe, e-mail) when just following an anti-virus update my computer reboots without a warning screen telling me to save open files.

it gets to the screen just prior to Windows start-up and i get a black screen, and at the top it says 'Operating System Not Detected'

WTF!

Is this a virus? Should I try to re-install Windows? If I do, will it just over-write the old OS, but leave all my files in place?

Help!
