Shady Canadian Leads To Greek Gold (http://www.cbc.ca/story/olympics/national/2004/08/17/Sports/athens-security040817.html)

This can be moved if it's not in the right forum.

Kind of a funny article, unfortunate for the Chinese.

The man, bare-chested and sporting a blue tutu, scampered onto the pool deck and climbed to an adjoining diving board during the men's synchronized three-metre springboard event on Monday.

Sounds amusingly similar to that guy who tried to go for a streak on the Saddledome ice, but instead knocked himself silly when he fell.

Too funny in one respect, but horrifically scary in another. How in the hell did this guy make it past security at the Olympic Games?? Isnt thsi supposed to be the MOST secure public place in world right now?

Wow.

I can't really see this as being that big of a security breach. Are they really trying to secure the games agains streakers? I doubt it, the big concern is the guys trying to bring bombs into the venues and stuff like that. A guy running onto the field is pretty much in consequential if he has a bomb strapped to his chest.

This security breach was no greater than the one that allowed the man who stabbed Monica Seles onto the tennis court.

I feel bad for the Chinese divers.... not sure if the guy streaked while they were actually diving or not but you would think they would give them a 'mulligan' for such an interruption.

I get the sense that Athens has great high level systems in place for security (facial recognition, sniffers, etc) but is really lacking in low level human security. Like guards checking passes and basically saying
'Don't go there'.

I disagree. The guy didn't have a knife. I'm pretty sure that getting the knife into the venue is a lot harder than getting onto the playing surface. That is the way it should be. If no weapons can get into the stadium then it is a lot safer for the athletes and the spectators. If their biggest problem is a guy streaking (or wearing a tootoo as the case may be) I'd say they're doing okay.

Is that "Golden Palace.com" on his chest? The same online casino that's sponsoring the da Vinci project's (former) Wildfire X-Prize entry?
