Live Thread of events going on now and what everyone is watching.

First jump of two of the Men's Normal Hill Ski Jumping. (TSN)

FIFTY guys qualified for the final.. the 4 Canadians didn't make it.

Ski jumping is hilarious. All these close to anorexic dudes flying 100 meters in wind catching suits and landing all within around 5 meters of each other.

I guess this is why we only get to "enjoy" it every four years.

It would be way cooler if they had clear a gap and then ride it out in the mogul run.

It's sort of like gymnastics with judges looking at the routine and landing.

I'm really enjoying the comments from Kucera and Vanderbeek. They really give great perspective and insight into how dangerous downshill skiing is. For athletes, they're actually really well spoken.

CTV will jump around everywhere and have news.

They moved the men's luge start to the women's start line on the "perfectly safe" track.

And the other Georgian luger withdrew - he wanted to participate but couldn't even bring himself to step on the track. Brutal. I felt so bad for the Georgian Olympians last night. You could see how devastated they all were. Proud of them for still going through the parade, but it had to be hard being around 60,000 celebrating people when one of their teammates is going home in a body bag.

I don't like the way everything is schedualed in 6 hour blocks on my PVR. I have to go out with the wife this afternoon/evening and wanted to record the Canadians Womens Hockey game, but have to tape the entire 6 hour block because it wont let me start recording at a specific time, just a specific slot. I wish it was broken down into smaller increments. Is that the broadcasters decision or SHAWs, I wonder?

Just a guess but I think the broadcasters aren't 100% sure of what they will be showing next. I think it depends on how we do at each event.

I think it's something like that. The reason they have them is to give the jumpers some perspective of the landing zone, otherwise, all they'd see is one big patch of white with no reference points to judge their distance to the ground and/or the angle of the hill.

You don't have to record the entire block. You can set a recording for specific times on the SHAW PVRs if you want to . . . I do it all the time to tape the sports section of the news to watch after game interviews . . .

Go to the quick menu → PVR → Set a Recording → Select the start and end time you want to record and date → choose channel → select record

This is why they are considering removing women's hockey from the Olympics. There are not enough countries that play the sport at an Olympic level. These kind of blowouts are common early in every tournament. That said, we were laughing the first few games of the men's world juniors...

Despite our dominance, there were a lot of mistakes by Canada in that first period. No look passes that got intercepted. Give aways in their own zone. Against better teams those mistakes will end up in the back of the net.

There are 3-4 teams that are competitive, and a bunch more that get stomped. Canada outscored it's first 3 opponents in 2006 36-1. It doesn't look much different than softball and baseball, two sports axed from the olympics in part due to lack of capable competitors.

The same thing happens in the Junior competition. Canada stomps their competitors usually into the double digits. Should that competition be shut down? Even in the Olympic Mens hockey, Canada usually beats up on their first few opponents.

My wife is paying more attention to the womens hockey game than I am, and she commented that she was pretty surprised by one of Cassie Campbells comments

It was something like
"if this was a real game she wouldnt have passed, she would have shot it" During the first handful of minutes in the first period.

She apparently corrected herself a little later, and I mean sure, we all know that Canada and the United States are going to steam roll everyone they face, but not so sure Cassie should have discredited Slovakia the way she did. Even if I agree with her. *shrugs*

So much to watch, and not enough tvs! think thats been my biggest issue today.

They should make Canada play shorthanded the whole game...then it might only be 10-0

I still don't know why they can't build and indoor mogul and half pipe arena? If the saudi's can build a ski dome so could we.

02-13-2010, 08:28 PM
Is the moguls supposed to start at 8:30 (in 3 minutes)?

TSN has speed skating.

CBC is currently showing the Mogul hill and audio keeps clipping in and out. Hopefully it starts.

Moose
02-13-2010, 08:29 PM
They say the moguls are still supposed to go, but CTV seems to be having all sorts of problems. Random sound clips being played with the moguls in the background... not sure what they were trying to do

I'm confused about Roark's husband trying to sneak in to the facility. Was it before hand, and he was trying to get some advanced scouting of the run or something? If thats the case I don't really see what the point would be.

"I snuck in, and it looks like there are a bunch of moguls before the jumps"...

edit: a quick search shows he was banned for sneaking in to watch her train when he didn't have his credentials yet. Makes a lot more sense
