---

Time to make selection is 15 hours.

---

Trades! you can make trades but the it has to be zero-sum since every team needs 18 cars. For example Team A can trade the 1st and 40th pick to Team B for the 5th and 6th pick. Or trade a car for another car etc...There is no trade deadline however there will be no trades allowed after the very last pick.

Make use of PMs and the chatroom to negotiate.

--

Switching!
At any time you can switch a car from one category to another if it qualifies.

--

Team names: you are welcome to PM me your team name and I'll add it to the draft board.

--

What continent a country belongs to?
We are using FIFA rules so for example Turkey and Israel belong to Europe. Borat is also European. The only exception to this rule is Australia.
Australia IS NOT IN ASIA.

--

When you are selecting please state in BOLD letters who you are selecting and in what category.

example: With the 1st overall pick of the draft, GirlySport's In-Box selects bicycle in the Asian category.

You are welcome to post 1 or 2 nice and CLEAN and not too big pictures of your selection.
If you have a link to a NSFW picture please say so.

And you can use a paragraph to state your case of why you made this selection.

That's pretty much it. Any questions you can ask in here or PM me...
Please be patient as people are not always checking this forum (especially on weekends).

If you can't make your selection for a long period of time let everyone know. If you can't continue also let me know and hopefully we can find a replacement.

Also, if you are away for a period of time, you can send me a list of 3-5 picks and I will draft for you.

With the #1 selection in the CP Car Draft, I select the Bugatti Veyron (wikipedia info here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bugatti_Veyron)). Surprise, surprise... Simply, it's the most outrageous car in the world. 8.0L quad turbocharged W16 engine gives it 1001 hp, which the all-wheel drive system uses to get 0-62 mph in 2.5 seconds, 0-100 in 5.2, 0-150 in 8.6, and finishes the quarter mile in 10 seconds on the way up to a top speed of 253.8 mph. That's 408.5 kph. Good stuff.

Edit: forgot to mention category. Let's go with coupe... for now. Doesn't really matter at this point.

With our first overall pick i will select the car that started everything.

The Mercedes patended 3 wheel motorwagen in the Pre-war Category

After developing a successful gasoline-powered two-stroke (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two-stroke) piston engine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piston_engine) in 1873 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1873), Benz focused on developing a motorized vehicle while maintaining a career as a designer and manufacturer of stationary engines and their associated parts.
The Benz Patent Motorwagen was a three-wheeled automobile with a rear-mounted engine. The vehicle contained many new inventions. It was constructed of steel tubing with woodwork panels. The steel-spoked wheels and solid rubber tires were Benz's own design. Steering was by way of a toothed rack (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rack_and_pinion) that pivoted the unsprung front wheel. Fully-elliptic springs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spring_(device)) were used at the back along with a live axle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_axle) and chain drive (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chain_drive) on both sides. A simple belt system served as a single-speed transmission (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transmission_(mechanics)), varying torque between an open disc and drive disc.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/94/First_Car_Replica_IAA_2007_1_crop.jpg/180px-First_Car_Replica_IAA_2007_1_crop.jpg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:First_Car_Replica_IAA_2007_1_crop.jpg)
Working replica of the 1885 Benz Motorwagen in Frankfurt, 2007

The first Motorwagen used the Benz 954 cc single-cylinder four-stroke (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four-stroke) engine. This new engine produced ⅔ hp (½ kW) at 250 rpm in the Patent Motorwagen, although later tests by the University of Mannheim (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Mannheim) showed it to be capable of .9 hp (0.7 kW) at 400 rpm. It was an extremely light engine for the time, weighing about 100 kg (220 lb). Although its open crankcase and drip oiling system would be alien to a modern mechanic, its use of a pushrod (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pushrod_engine)-operated poppet valve (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poppet_valve) for exhaust would be quite familiar. A large horizontal flywheel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flywheel) stabilized the single-cylinder engine's power output. An evaporative carburettor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carburettor) was controlled by a sleeve valve (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleeve_valve) to regulate power and engine speed.
Benz later built more models of the Motorwagen, model number 2 boasting 1.5 hp (1.1 kW), and model number 3 with 2 hp (1.5 kW), allowing the vehicle to reach a maximum speed of approximately 10 miles per hour (16 km/h). The chassis was improved in 1887 with the introduction of wooden-spoke wheels, a fuel tank, and a manual leather shoe brake (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drum_brake) on the rear wheels

Very nice car. I definitely had it on my list; just not in the convertible category.

TimSJ
06-04-2009, 12:00 PM
doesn't really matter to me.

Targa top, targa for short, is a semi-convertible (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convertible) car body style (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Car_body_style) with a removable roof section and a full width roll bar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roll_bar) behind the seats. The rear window can be fixed or removable, making it a convertible-type vehicle. In common usage, any piece of metal or trim which rises up from the side of a car and continues in an uninterrupted line over the roof and down the other side may be called a targa band, targa bar or a wrapover band. Targa tops are different from T-tops (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-top), which have a solid, non-removable bar running between the top of the windscreen and the rear roll-bar.

A convertible is a type of automobile in which the roof can retract and fold away, converting it from an enclosed to an open-air vehicle. Many different automobile body styles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Car_body_style) are manufactured and marketed in convertible form.
Roof designs vary widely, but a few characteristics are common to all convertibles. Roofs are affixed to the body of the vehicle and are usually not detachable. Instead the roof is hinged and folds away, either into a recess behind the rear seats or into the boot or trunk of the vehicle. The roof may operate either manually or automatically via hydraulic or electrical actuators, and the roof itself may be constructed of soft or rigid material. Soft-tops are made of vinyl, canvas or other textile material, while hard-tops are made of steel, aluminum, plastic or other rigid materials.
Contemporary convertibles are known and marketed under several different terms due to the convergence of body styles over the years. A soft-top convertible may also be referred to as a cabriolet or cabrio, although two-seater soft tops often retain the name roadster (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roadster), referring to their body style. Hard-tops are marketed under the terms coupé cabriolet, coupé convertible or simply retractable hardtop, while two-seaters more commonly use coupé roadster/roadster coupé.

The jealousy comes out. :p To me if I am driving down the road with no roof, it is a convertible. Exotic to me is anything outside of N.America. The magazines like "Exotic Luxury", and the asian exotic magazines, have Euro/Asian cars, and they aren't all Ferrari's, GTR's.

For Arsenal's Loaded Guns.. first pick in the Asian category.. is the Nissan GTR aka: Godzilla.

2009 was the first year that this car was available to the world market. It has been the wet dream of teen age boys, and tuners alike for many years. At $80K USD MSRP, it out performs vehicles that cost twice as much.

Each engine is hand made, and no 2 engines are exactly alike.

Performance times from wiki:
The GT-R currently holds a lap time of 1:19.7 around the Top Gear Test Track (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_Gear_Test_Track), equalling that of the Ferrari 430 Scuderia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrari_F430#430_Scuderia).Nissan claims the GT-R can reach a top speed of 192 mph (309 km/h),[23] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_GT-R#cite_note-22) Motor Trend (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motor_Trend) recorded a top speed of 195.0 mph (313.8 km/h).With a manufacturer claimed lap time of 7:29 min on standard Japanese market tires, the GT-R is currently one of the fastest production cars to lap the Nürburgring circuit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N%C3%BCrburgring_lap_times)It may not be the prettiest vehicle on the road, but it makes up for it every other area.

Some excellent choices so far but Lemelin's Lemmings are thrilled that the following car has fallen down to them.

Without further ado with our first selection in the CP Car Draft Lemelin's Lemmings are prood to select from Woking of the United Kingdom the McLaren F1. It has been more then 15 years since it was first produced but this unique three seater coupe remains one of the fastest production cars ever made and is still the fastest naturally aspirated production car (we don't need no stinkin' turbos).

We anticipated the the McLaren F1 will be slotted into our British car position.

Team Barnes is proud to select in the Pre War category, THE car of the century...

The Volkswagen Beetle

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/cf/Volkswagen_Beetle_.jpg/800px-Volkswagen_Beetle_.jpg

1938–2003
21,529,464 built
(of which 15,444,858 in Germany, incl. 330,251 Cabriolets,[1]
and ≈ 3.350.000 in Brazil)

Initially called the Porsche 60 by Ferdinand Porsche, it was officially named the KdF-Wagen when the project was launched. The name refers to Kraft durch Freude (Strength Through Joy), the official leisure organization in the Third Reich. It was later known as the Type 1, but became more commonly known as the Beetle after World War II.
Prototypes appeared from 1931; the first were produced by Zündapp in Nürnberg, the Porsche Type 12. The next prototype series (Porsche Type 32) were built in 1933 by NSU, another motorcycle company.
In October 1935 the first Type 60 was ready. In 1935 testing of the "V3" started. The "VW30" prototypes had further testing in 1937. All cars already had the distinctive round shape and the air-cooled, rear-mounted engine, except for the Type 12, Zündapp preferred a 5-cylinder radial watercooled engine.
The factory had only produced a handful of cars by start of the war in 1939. Consequently, the first volume-produced versions of the car's chassis were military vehicles, the Kübelwagen Type 82 (approx. 52,000 built) and the amphibious Schwimmwagen Type 166 (approx. 14,000 built).
The car was designed to be as simple as possible mechanically, so that there was less to go wrong; the aircooled 985 cc 25 horsepower (19 kW) motors proved especially effective in actions of the German Afrika Korps in Africa's desert heat. This was due to the built-in oil-cooler, and the superior performance of the flat-4 engine configuration. The innovative suspension design used compact torsion bars instead of coil or leaf springs. The Beetle is more or less airtight and will float on water, indeed it is hard to slam the door on one since the difference in air pressure pushes it back before it shuts.
The model village of Stadt des KdF-Wagens was created in Lower Saxony in 1938 for the benefit of the workers at the factory.
A handful of Beetles were produced specifically for civilians, primarily for the Nazi elite, in the years 1940–1945, but production figures were small. Because of gasoline shortages, a few wartime "Holzbrenner" Beetles were fueled by wood pyrolysis gas producers under the hood. In addition to the Kübelwagen, Schwimmwagen, and handful of others, the factory managed another wartime vehicle: the Kommandeurwagen; a Beetle body mounted on the Kübelwagen chassis.
669 Kommandeurwagens were produced up to 1945, when all production was halted because of heavy damage to the factory by Allied air raids. Much of the essential equipment had already been moved to underground bunkers for protection, which let production resume quickly after hostilities ended.

With our second round pick, Lemelin's Lemmings are prood to select from Tri-Cities Washington the Shelby SuperCars (SSC) Ultimate Aero.

There was a lot if debate about filling one of the old school slots but at this point in the draft it was just too hard to pass on the reigning fasted and most powerful production car on the planet. For now we feel that the SSC Ultimate Aero will fit in nicely in our North American slot.

A couple of quotes from Wiki:

Its turbocharged 6.35 liter (387.2 cubic inch) V8 produces 1,183 bhp (882 kW), which makes it the most powerful production car in the world, beating the Bugatti Veyron (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bugatti_Veyron)'s 987 bhp (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horsepower#Brake_horsepower) (736 kW (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kilowatt); 1,001 PS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metric_horsepower)). On September 13, 2007, the "Ultimate Aero" also took the title of fastest production car from the Bugatti Veyron. The Ultimate Aero has a top speed of 412 km/h (256 mph).

Simulation and testing at NASA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NASA)'s Virginia facility (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Langley_Research_Center) had shown that the Ultimate Aero TT should be capable of approximately 273 mph (439 km/h).

For Arsenal's Loaded Guns second pick, I am very pleased to select the Brawn BGP 001 for the Race Car category.

This car is currently runing in it's first season in the F1 under the driving expertise of Jenson Button, has won 5 of 6 races. The other team member is Rubens Barrichello.

The Brawn team took over from where Honda took off. The current team principle is Ross Brawn of Ferrari and Michael Schumacher fame. Brawn also has the backing of one Sir Richard Branson and Virgin.

The vehicles is powered by the Mercedes-Benz FO108W 2.4 L (~146 cu in) V8, naturally-aspirated, mid-mounted[/url] engine.

I have actually had the privilege of going to the factory in Italy. It is only 3 rooms big (4 if you count the "show room"). Very very small facility. When I was there they had one almost complete (being made) and numerous Carbon Fibre parts for other cars. It is about the greatest place I have ever been.

With our second selection i will go to the 50's and select the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL "Gullwing.

http://www.autospies.com/images/users/greenwad/1955-300-sl-gullwing-600-001.JPG

The Mercedes-Benz 300SL was introduced in 1954 as a two-seat, closed sports car (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_car) with distinctive gull-wing doors (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gull-wing_door). Later it was offered as an open roadster (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roadster). It was the fastest production car of its day.
Built by Daimler-Benz (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daimler-Benz) AG and internally numbered W198, the fuel-injected road version was based (somewhat loosely) on the company's highly successful competition-only sports car of 1952, the somewhat less powerful carbureted Mercedes-Benz 300SL (W194).
The road model was suggested by Max Hoffman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Hoffman). Being intended for customers in the booming post-war American market it was introduced at the 1954 New York Auto Show (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Auto_Show), unlike previous models introduced at either the Frankfurt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frankfurt_Motor_Show) or Geneva (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geneva_Motor_Show) shows. In Mercedes-Benz fashion, the "300" referred to the engine's three liter cylinder displacement. The "SL" stood for "Sport Leicht" (Sport Light).
The 300SL was best known for both its distinctive gull wing doors and being the first-ever gasoline-powered car (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four-stroke_cycle) equipped with fuel injection (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuel_injection) directly into the combustion chamber. The gull wing version was available from March 1955 to 1957. Production of the roadster ended in 1963 with the introduction of the 230SL.

With my next selection. I will fill up the 60's category with the 1967 Cobra 427 Super Snake another one of my favorites.

http://www.carworld.pl/uploads/2009/04/supersnake.jpg

Shelby Motors built 22 427 competition roadsters. In 1965, one was selected and converted into a special model called the 427 "Cobra to End All Cobras." The first one of these (number CSX 3015) was originally part of a European promotional tour before its conversion. This conversion called for making the original racing model street legal with mufflers, a windshield and bumpers amongst other modifications. But some things were not modified, including the racing rear end, brakes and headers. The most notable modification is the addition of Twin Paxton Superchargers. This gave the car an alleged 800 brake horsepower (bhp) and 462 lb·ft (626 N·m). of torque at an astounding low of 2800 rpm. Officially rated at 0-to-60 at 4.5 seconds, legend and lore have it as doing that in a little over 3 seconds as one must lay off the throttle heavily just to get traction off the line.
Another non-competition 427 roadster, CSX 3303, was converted and given to Shelby's close friend, Bill Cosby (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Cosby). Cosby attempted to drive the super-fast Cobra, but had issues with keeping it under control. This was humorously documented in Cosby's album titled "Bill Cosby, 200 M.P.H. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/200_M.P.H.)" Cosby then gave the car back to Shelby, who then shipped it out to one of their dealers in San Francisco, S&C Ford on Van Ness Avenue. S&C Ford then sold it to customer Tony Maxey. Maxey, suffering the same issues as Cosby did with the car, lost control and drove it off of a cliff, landing in the Pacific Ocean waters. It is to be noted that Maxey's accident was largely speculated as suicide. It was eventually recovered and the wreckage was bought by Brian Angliss of CP Autokraft. He is expected to auction his restored version in the future.
Shelby's original model, CSX 3015, was kept by Carroll Shelby (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carroll_Shelby) himself over the years as a personal car, sometimes entering it into local races like the Turismos Visitadores Cannonball-Run race in Nevada, where he was "waking [up] whole towns, blowing out windows, throwing belts and catching fire a couple of times, but finishing." CSX 3015 was auctioned off on 22 January 2007 at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event in Scottsdale, Arizona for $5 million plus commission (a record for Cobras, but no record for a Barrett-Jackson sold price)[citation needed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)].

For our 3rd selection, Arsenal's Loaded Guns is going to select from the 90's the Bugatti EB110.

It was unveiled on September 15, 1991, exactly 110 years after Ettore Bugatti's birth (and exactly 14 years after my birth).

The car featured a 60 valve quad-turbo V12 engine, powering all 4 wheels. It had a top speed of 213 mph. The SS version of the vehicle, had a top speed of 216 mph.

With an MSRP of $350,000 USD, it is a little on the expensive side, even by today's standards.

With its third round selection Lemelin's Lemmings are pleased to select from the 1930's the Ford Model B, also commonly referred to as the Model 18 or Ford V8. This car is going to be parked in our Pre-war stall.

http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Model_B_(1932)

Built by Ford between 1932 and 1935, this car was a beauty in its own right but it is probably most recognized as the "grandfather" of hot rods. The 1932 "deuce coupe" is the quintessential hot rod. When most people think of hot rods this is the car.

With their third pick, Team Barnes selects in the Race Car Category The GT40 Mk-II.

he Ford GT40 was a high performance sports car (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_car) and winner of the 24 hours of Le Mans (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/24_hours_of_Le_Mans) four times in a row, from 1966 to 1969 (in 1967 with a different body, though). It was built to win long-distance sports car races (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_car_racing) against Ferrari (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scuderia_Ferrari) (who won at Le Mans (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_24_Hours_of_Le_Mans_winners) six times in a row from 1960 to 1965). The GT40 GT-40P 1075 was the first car to win at Le Mans twice (in 1968 and 1969). That car used the Gurney Weslake (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weslake) engine with the special alloy heads made by Weslake. The car was named the GT (for Grand Tourisme (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gran_Turismo)) with the 40 representing its overall height of 40 inches (1.02 m, measured at the windshield) as required by the rules. Large displacement Ford V8 engines (4.7 L and 7 L) were used, compared with the Ferrari V12 which displaced 3.0 L or 4.0 L.
Early cars were simply named "Ford GT". The name "GT40" was the name of Ford's project to prepare the cars for the international endurance racing circuit, and the quest to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The first 12 "prototype" vehicles carried serial numbers GT-101 through GT-112. The "production" began and the subsequent cars, the MkI, MkIIs, MkIIIs, and MkIVs, numbered GT40-P-1000 through GT40-P-1145, were officially "GT40s". The name of Ford's project, and the serial numbers dispel the story that "GT40" was "only a nickname."

http://fifthgear.five.tv/features/F40_wp0_400.jpghttp://www.ssip.net/upload/ferrari-f40-side-3_66.jpg

The Ferrari F40 is a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rear_mid-engine,_rear-wheel_drive_layout), two-door coupé (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coup%C3%A9) sports car (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_car) produced by Ferrari (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrari) from 1987 to 1992 as the successor to the Ferrari 288 GTO (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrari_288_GTO). From 1987 to 1989 it held the title as the world's fastest street-legal production car (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fastest_production_car), and during its years of production, was Ferrari's fastest, most powerful, and most expensive car.
The car debuted with a factory suggested retail price (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suggested_retail_price) of approximately US$ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_dollar)400,000, although some buyers were reported as paying as much as US$1.6 million. A total of 1,315 F40s were produced.

I found this to be a very difficult pick. There are so many cars I would love to have in my garage and so many picks between this one and my next one.

With the fourth round pick Lemelin's Lemmings has decided to fill the 1960's stall in the garage with the Chevrolet Camaro.

Everyone has their list of dream cars with many of those cars never being a realistic possibility to actually own. Well this car has been on my list for as long as I can remember and is one of those cars that I would realistically love to own one day. The Camaro may not be as trendy as the Mustang's of the same era but I would choose the Camaro over the Mustang every time.

http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First-generation_Chevrolet_Camaro

A funny quote...

Automotive press asked Chevrolet product managers, "What is a Camaro?" and were told it was "a small, vicious animal that eats Mustangs."

The Testarossa name, which means "red head" in Italian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italian_language), comes from the red-painted cam covers on the flat-12 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flat-12) engine.[7] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrari_Testarossa#cite_note-drivingtoday-6)
Of course, the double entendre (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_entendre) with a red-headed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_hair) woman was intentional; in fact, Ferrari and Pininfarina regularly use descriptive
terms related to a female's body when describing the style of their automobiles.
As the car became synonymous with 80s yuppies and nowadays plays a part of the 80's retro culture,[12] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrari_Testarossa#cite_note-11) such popularity
meant that the Testarossa has made appearance in numerous video games, most notably the arcade games Out Run (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Out_Run), OutRun 2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OutRun_2),
and Hard Drivin' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_Drivin%27), and also in the TV series Miami Vice (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miami_Vice), as Sonny Crockett's undercover car from season three (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Miami_Vice_episodes#Season_3) and on.

Well there goes my F40 and Testarossa.

Yeah, my heart sank a bit when the F40 was picked. I'm personally not a big fan of the Testarossa, never really like it for some reason, but it is a true 80's car and a good pick as well.

Now I've got the long wait.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/1d/Ferrari_Dino_246_GT_1969.jpg/800px-Ferrari_Dino_246_GT_1969.jpg

Calls for more power were answered with the 2.4 L (2418 cc) Dino 246. The motor was a 65 degree, dual overhead camshaft, 9.0:1 compression ratio, iron block with alloy heads. The European motor produced 195 bhp (at 7,600 rpm), and was available as a fixed-top GT coupe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coupe) or, after 1971, an open Spyder (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spyder) GTS. The American version had an exhaust air-pump, and timing changes which created 175 hp (130 kW). The GT had 3 Weber 40 DCNF/6 or 40 DCNF/7 carburetors.
The 246 Dino GT weighed 2380 pounds. The 246 Dino GTS weighed 2426 pounds. The body was now made of steel to save cost. The 246 Dino had a 2.1-inch (53 mm) longer wheelbase than the 206, at 92.1 inches. The height of the 246 was the same as the 206 at 43.9 inches.
Production numbered 2,487 GTs and 1,274 Spyders, the latter being built from 1972 to 1974 only, for a total production run of 3,761.
The 246 had a top speed of 146 mph (235 km/h).
The Dino's 2.4L V6 found its way into a number of other Italian performance cars after its application in the 246, most notably the Lancia Stratos (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lancia_Stratos) rally car.

SebC selects in the Race Car category, the Porsche 917, which in 917K form set a record for the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1971 that stands today. The 917/30 entered in the 1973 Can-Am series had 1580 horsepower and is the most powerful "sports car racer" ever (I'm assuming that excludes dragsters).

In the 60s category, SebC selects the Ferrari 250 GTO. Le Mans rules were that you had to build 100 cars to enter it, but somehow Ferrari got away with only 39.

http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk48/carguy155/1-193.jpg

the Ariel Atom

This British two-seat fun-wagon is designed for one thing and one thing only: awesomeness.

Powered by a supercharged 300hp Honda engine, the 500 bhp/ton power-to-weight ration allows the Atom to turn in insanely quick times on any track you can find, even though its top speed only comes in at around 150 mph.

While it's not the most beautiful car in the world, nor the fastest or most expensive, it just looks like so much crazy fun that team Custom Carb couldn't run the risk of it ending up in someone else's garage.

New for 2010 is an RS version with a 500 horsepower V8 engine, which will give the Atom twice the power-to-weight of the Bugatti Veyron.

for my next pick i will go to the exotic category and select the Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina.

There is a great thread on FerrariChat.com about the design and development of this car. Jim Glickenhaus is a very active member on the site and shared it all with the members.. I am a member on the site and it was very cool to follow.

Jim bought the last Enzo and delivered it to Pininferina and the did their magic. You have to love the guy he uses his cars.. This is no garage queen. He has already put 7000 or so miles on the car.

Here is the thread. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=92754

The Ferrari P4/5 (officially known as the Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina) is a one-off (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/one-off) sports car (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_car) made by Italian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italy) sports car (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_car) manufacturer Ferrari (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrari) but redesigned by Pininfarina (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pininfarina) for film director (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film_director) and stock exchange magnate (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_magnate) James Glickenhaus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Glickenhaus). The car was an Enzo Ferrari (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enzo_Ferrari_(automobile)) but the owner James Glickenhaus preferred the styling of Ferrari's 1960s race cars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_car), the P Series (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrari_P).[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrari_P4/5_by_Pininfarina#cite_note-supercars-0) The project cost Glickenhaus US$ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/US_Dollar) 4 million and was officially presented to the public in August 2006 at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elégance (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pebble_Beach_Concours_d%27El%C3%A9gance), but in July 2006 Glickenhaus allowed several websites to publish images of the clay model.[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrari_P4/5_by_Pininfarina#cite_note-autoblog-1)[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrari_P4/5_by_Pininfarina#cite_note-2)[4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrari_P4/5_by_Pininfarina#cite_note-pininfarina-3)

5th Round, and I kind of surprised this car is still around.
For my 5th round selection, in the 2000's category, I am proud to select the:
Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Edition.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamborghini_Gallardo

The Gallardo is Lamborghini's most-produced model to date, with over 5000 on first three years of production. Each car costs about $180,000 to $210,000. The car is named after a famous breed of fighting bull. The Norway word gallardo translates into "gallant," and from England into "striking".The Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 was revealed at the 2008 Geneva Auto Show. It is powered by a new 5.2 L V10 with FSI direct injection, generating 552 bhp (411.6 kW) and 398 lb·ft (540 N·m) of torque. The engine is heavily based on the new Audi RS6 V10. Unlike the precedent engine, this engine no longer has split crankpins, so it is not even firing, but Lamborghini says that due to the stiffer crankshaft it has less vibrations than the previous engine. Also, a revised transmission and four wheel drive system as well as a 20 kg (44 lb) weight loss are expected. The 4 at the end of the name refers to the Gallardo's permanent four-wheel-drive system. It also incorporates a new front bumper influenced by the [Lamborghini Reventón. Pricing of the Gallardo LP560-4 will start at around US$222,000. In an episode of Top Gear, the LP560-4 managed a lap of 1:19.5, faster than the Ferrari F430 Scuderia, the Nissan GT-R and its counterpart the
Lamborghini Murciélago LP640.Not to mention, it is a very nice looking vehicle. When it isn't neon orange or green.

I thought that the Estoque was a concept car? Can we put concepts into other categories?

arsenal
06-18-2009, 03:58 PM
That's a good question. Because the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR is a track only car, but was picked in the exotic category. I thought exotics where street legal, but rare.

STeeLy
06-18-2009, 04:05 PM
Estoque is a concept yes... but it's a concept Sedan

This is a tough one...

Do all cars OUTSIDE of concept have to be already produced and on the roads?

3 Justin 3
06-18-2009, 04:19 PM
I would say the Lambo Estoque is pure Concept. It is a sedan sure, but it is still early in development, they don't know what kind of engine yet, etc.

I would say Concept as being a car either never produced, not yet produced, technical exercise. Usually the final car doesn't look like the concept. The Estoque will look close to that, but I am willing to bet the interior won't.

the lemming
06-18-2009, 04:36 PM
I didn't notice the chosen 911 was a track only car but the Estoque is listed as a concept car on wiki (infact it was on my short list for concept cars).

I was working under the assumption that all cars (other then the race car, movie and concept) had to be street legal production cars. Otherwise, why bother having those three categories. I wasn't real big on those three categories to begin with as I prefer street cars.

I would say that MattyC can get away with just picking the top street version of that generation of 911, but that the Estoque can only be a concept car.

I will wait a while to make my next pick until we can get concensus on this issue.

STeeLy
06-18-2009, 04:50 PM
We shall wait and see then... If Estoque is only allowed to be concept (which at this point seems quite likely), I will re-pick...

TimSJ

i would agree that the Estoque is a pure concept still at this point.

SebC

IMO the movie car rule should apply to concepts... you can't pick cars that aren't real except for that category. IMO anything that isn't a production version is a concept - i.e. prototypes etc. Not sure about track-only cars in categories other than race car. One-offs a bit weird too... I'm not really comfortable with TimSJ's P4/5 that started its life as an Enzo. Does the Enzo rule it out?

TimSJ
06-18-2009, 06:46 PM
it is an official ferrari model. the Ferrari P4/5 by Pinniferina. As the car was getting to completion he brought over the pres of Ferrari and they gave their blessing.. That is why it is offically the Ferrari P4/5 by Pinniferina and not the Pinniferina P4/5..

It is actually listed in all the parts catalogues, Ferrair diagnostic computer, etc even though another one will never be built.

I am easy though and can find something else if that is peoples wishes...

The Ferrari P4/5 isn't a production car. According to Wikipedia only 1 was made. It is a one off sports car. The difference between the Murcielago and the Reventon is huge, and there were 20 Reventons made (technically 22), but only 1 of the P4/5's.

I wouldn't call the P4/5 a concept because it isn't, but I wouldn't call it exotic either, if only one were made.

Whoa this is going fast...

First some admin stuff. Girly, the Maseratti I chose should be in the Exotic Category.

Team Barnes will take one of our all time favs, in the 90s category, the Jaguar XJ220.

The production version of the car was first shown to the public in October 1991 after undergoing significant changes. The most obvious of which was a completely different drivetrain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drivetrain) and the elimination of the scissor doors. TWR was charged with producing the car and had several goals/rules in producing the car: the car would be rear wheel drive (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rear_wheel_drive) instead of all wheel drive; turbocharged V6 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V6_engine) instead of the big V12 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V12_engine); and performance goals of over 200 mph (320 km/h), 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 3.8 seconds, and the lightest weight possible.

The 6.2 L V12 had been judged too difficult to get past increasingly strict emission regulations and there were also reportedly some design problems caused by the size of the power plant. It was replaced with a Tom Walkinshaw (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Walkinshaw)-developed 3.5 L V6 based on the engine used in the Rover (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rover) Metro 6R4 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rover_Metro#Metro_6R4_Rally_Car) rally (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rallying) car and fitted with twin Garrett T3 turbochargers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turbochargers), generating 542 bhp (404 kW; 550 PS) of maximum power at 7000 rpm and 476 lb·ft (645 N·m) of torque at 4500 rpm. This engine was the first V6 in Jaguar's history, and was the first to use forced induction (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forced_induction). In spite of the smaller displacement and half the number of cylinders, the engine produced more power than the V12 would have. However, potential customers judged the exhaust note to be harsh and the lag (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turbo_lag#Lag) from the turbos to be an annoyance. Also missing from the production version of the car was the Ferguson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferguson_Research_Ltd.) all wheel drive (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_wheel_drive) – the production car had only rear driven wheels, through a conventional transaxle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transaxle) – and the ABS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-lock_Braking_System).

and to keep it in the family. Team Barnes selects in the convertible category, the Jaguar E-Type. It is also the most beautiful car ever designed and if you disagree, you're an a-hole.

The Jaguar E-Type (UK) or XK-E (US) is a British automobile (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automobile), manufactured by Jaguar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaguar_Cars) between 1961 and 1974. Its combination of good looks, high performance, and competitive pricing resulted in a great success for Jaguar, with more than 70,000 E-Types being sold over its lifespan, and became an icon of 1960s motoring.

When released Enzo Ferrari (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enzo_Ferrari) called it "The most beautiful car ever made".

http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/hurricane_450-op.jpg

The G-Power Hurricane BMW M5

The ultimate in subtle power, the Hurricane M5 is the fastest road-legal BMW on the planet. Normally the M5 pushes an astonishing 507 hp, but the Hurricane has been tuned-up to deliver a staggering 730 hp and was clocked at the Papenburg speed bowl exceeding 225 mph. The G-Power crew insist the car is capable of speeds over 250, but light-snow kept the speed down on the day the record was set.

All this without any ridiculous farings, spoilers or other fluffery to spoil the grace of the bimmer's lines.

The Ascari A10

Built by British manufacturer Ascari, whose mission is to develop both pure race-cars and road-legal race cars, the A10 was built to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the company.

Powered by a 600 hp BMW engine and featuring a sequential manual gearbox (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sequential_manual_transmission) the A10 is capable of speeds up to 220 mph and has a 0-60 time of 2.8 seconds.

In addition to being one of, if not the, quickest supercars on the planet (the A10 currently holds the second-fastest time ever on the Top Gear track), the A10 is one of the best-looking - even though it's only available in "look at me" yellow with black racing stripes.

Purchasing an Ascari will not only get you noticed on the streets, but will also grant you membership to the Ascari Racing Resort. A purpose-built, five-star facility in southern Spain, which is a combination race-track and luxury resort hotel.

Obviously based on the SL-Class roadster (http://www.auto123.com/en/mercedes/sl-class/2009/review?carid=1094002601&artid=95778), the Black Series gets a fixed roof instead of the power-folding one on the regular models.

Power comes from a retuned version of the SL65 AMG's twin-turbo, 36-valve, 6.0-litre V12 that develops 661 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque, which is connected to a 5-speed automatic transmission with rev matching. The German brand claims a top speed of 318 km/h.

Visually, Black Series SL is instantly recognizable by its bulging front and rear fenders, wider track and redesigned bumpers. Other significant modifications include a revised suspension and redecorated cockpit.

Out of the 14 2002 races Michael Schumacher's F2002 participated in it won 9 of them and placed second in the other 5. While the other F2002 won 4 and came second in 5 of them. (The first two races of 2002 they used the F2001 IIRC)

And out of the 14 races in 2002 that the F2002 participated in there was only one race where it didn't win...and it came second.

From the sedan category, going to pick the Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG.
The name "S-Class" derives from the German (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_language) word "Sonderklasse" of which "S-Class" is an abbreviation. Sonderklasse means "special class" (or rather: "In a class of its own"), and in automotive terms thus refers to "a specially outfitted car." Although used colloquially for decades, the "S-Class" designation was first officially applied in 1973 with the debut of the W116 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_W116) model line. Since then, five generations of officially-named S-Class sedans have been produced.

I'll get more info up later.

In the seventh round, Lemelin's Lemmings are please to select in the 90's category the Ferrari F355. It might not be the fastest or most powerful Ferrari but the styling is very clean and tasteful. Now I can rest easy knowing that I have a Ferrari in my garage. :)

Here is some wiki info... http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrari_F355

And some pictures...

^^I'm on it.

Team Barnes selects in the North American Category, The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1.

http://www.justmorecars.com/cat_img/chevrolet/2008-corvette_zr1/800x600/chevrolet-corvette_zr1_2008_800x600_wallpaper_01.jpg

The Corvette variant now officially known as the ZR1 was first reported by several print and online publications who were speculating that Chevrolet was developing a super high performance production version of the Corvette and were internally calling it "Blue Devil" (named after GM CEO Rick Wagoner (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_Wagoner)'s alma mater, Duke University (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duke_University)). Wagoner is quoted as saying, "I wonder what they can do for 100,000 dollars?" during a GM board meeting speaking about Chevrolet designers. The production version debuted at the 2008 North American International Auto Show (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_American_International_Auto_Show) and will be available as a 2009 model.
The ZR1 was formally announced in a December 2007 press statement by General Motors, where it was revealed that their target of 100 horsepower/liter (1.64 hp/cu in) has been reached by a new "LS9" engine, an Eaton-supercharged (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supercharged) 6.2-liter engine producing a confirmed 638 hp (476 kW) and 604 foot-pounds force (819 N·m) of torque with a sticker price of about US $100,000. The engine is the most powerful engine to be put into a GM production sports car.[24] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Corvette#cite_note-23) Top speed is 205 mph (330 km/h)[25] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Corvette#cite_note-24)[26] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Corvette#cite_note-25). Along with an improved motor, the ZR1 also comes with extensive carbon-fiber body parts, including (but not limited to) wider fenders, the hood, roof panel, roof bow, front fascia splitter and rocker moldings. However, the car is heavier and more front weight biased than the Z06 because of the supercharger, with a weight distribution of 52% at the front and 48% at the rear. Tires were also increased in diameter and width, along with bigger and stronger brakes, adjustable suspension, and optional chrome wheels and a premium interior package.

In the Movie category, Team Barnes selects the Toyota 2000 GT from the movie You Only Live Twice.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/9e/TOYOTA_2000GT_Bond_vehicles.jpg/800px-TOYOTA_2000GT_Bond_vehicles.jpg

The 2000GT made its most famous screen appearance in the 1967 James Bond (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Bond) movie You Only Live Twice (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/You_Only_Live_Twice_%28film%29). Even though the car was never commercially available as a convertible, two were made specially for the film. However, they did not have roofs, just an upholstered hump at the rear of the cabin to simulate a folded top, and therefore were not really true convertibles. Prior to the decision to make fully roofless cars, building the car as a targa (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Targa_top) was tried, allegedly due to Sean Connery's height not allowing him to fit into the ultra-low coupé version. This retained the hatchback of the original car, but eliminated the rear side windows. However, when the Targa was completed, Connery's head stuck out of the top to such an extent that it was decided it looked too ridiculous and that roofless versions would have to be made if the car was to be featured in the film (its lead competition for the role was said to be the then-new Chevrolet Camaro (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Camaro), which would have looked strange in a film set in Japan.)
Originally, the Toyota was to be driven by 007 himself, but script changes meant that it ended up as the car of his Japanese contact Aki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aki_%28James_Bond%29), although as actress Akiko Wakabayashi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akiko_Wakabayashi) could not drive, all the actual driving was done by stuntmen in wigs, and all her close-up scenes were filmed while the car was stationary. Some of the close-ups were actually filmed using another white convertible as a stand-in, as in the finished film some shots of Bond and Aki driving clearly show the car's dashboard, and this looks totally different from that of a 2000GT. Budget cuts also meant that of the three planned car chases, only one eventually ended up on screen. Nevertheless, the 2000GT did get some memorable screentime, being used to evade villains in a Toyota Crown (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Crown#Second_.28S40_Model:_1962_to_1967.29) . The car had none of the defence mechanisms enjoyed by Bond's own vehicles, although it did feature a TV/radio communications device in the rear cabin. Corgi Toys (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corgi_Toys) modelled the car, and added rockets which could be fired out of the boot, although these do not appear in the film.

I was going to save this pick for later in the draft thinking that it was a bit of a sleeper. But after seeing a picture of it in Barnes last pick I've decided I couldn't risk waiting any longer.

In the 8th round Lemelin's Lemmings pick, in the 70's category, the De Tomaso Pantera.

This car is another one of those realistic dream cars of mine that I would love to own one day; similar to my 4th round pick, the late 60's Camaro. An awesome fusion of Italian styling and North American muscle went into creating this brute.

In the late 1960s, Ford was in need of a high performance GT to combat the likes of Ferrari and Corvette, and assist in generating additional dealership traffic for its mainstream product lines. DeTomaso Automobili was relying on Ford for engines used in the Mangusta and had purchased the Ghia design and coach-building concern. After Ford’s failed attempt to purchase Ferrari, the Ford-DeTomaso marriage seemed quite natural, so a business / purchase arrangement was consummated and work began on a new mid-engined GT. It would be marketed in the U.S. by Ford’s Lincoln-Mercury division.

So before I make my next pic.. just a quick question.. are you allowed to pick vehicles that have been picked already, but are a different model? ie: Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR and then the Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR 722? Same car, but different?

Damn, between me, STeely, and Matty, who all have Astons, I can barely tell them apart. I can tell a Vanquish from the others (from the back, or side by side from the front), but between the DB9/S and Vantage the differences (exterior) are so minute.

Isn't the 722 just the same car but more powerful? I saw it on Top Gear last night and couldn't spot a difference other than power. To me, there the same pick. The only time I would say there different is like the Ferrari F430, and the 430 racer car which is miles different.

The Maserati Birdcage 75th was a concept car created by automobile manufacturer Maserati and designed by Jason Castriota under the guides of Ken Okuyama at Pininfarina.[1] It was first introduced at the 2005 Geneva Auto Show. It was named to honor the classic Maserati Birdcages of the 1960s and Pininfarina's 75th anniversary.
