View Full Version : CP Photo Contest 18 - LIFE -

Theme for CP Photo Contest 18 is "Life"
That could be "the joy of life" or "life in your city, (which could be quite sad actually)" or "plant/animal life," etc, etc, . . . . . show us life.
Round one voting is open until 10:00 pm on June 1, two weeks from today, then finalists will be presented for a final vote.
---------------
Rules:
All photos must be no larger than 800x600 (or something close)
Please post only 1 photo per post (make a new post for new pics)
Post as many photos as you like, just keep it on topic
Vote by clicking the "Thanks" button at the bottom of the post
You may vote for 3 finalists.
Once the challenge leader (winner from previous challenge) chooses when to end the voting, he/she will change the thread title to explain when voting ends.
Once voting for the finalists is over, the challenge leader will tally up the votes and post (in 3 separate posts) the finalists.
Challenge leader again changes thread title to say when voting ends. Then, everyone comes back and votes on those 3 finalists.
You are only allowed 1 vote in the finals, so choose wisely
Winner of the challenge will start a new challenge thread and copy/paste these rules in the original post for consistency.
Don't be too specific with the theme nor too general. Try and get a theme that people can contribute to. Don't pick the red african ant of Kenya as a theme... nobody will post. Likewise, don't make the theme "stuff on earth"
Have fun.

The amount of people with extreme deformities begging on the streets of Shanghai was pretty high last year before the Olympics. Then they cleared all of them out so that foreigners wouldn't see them...

A slice of a hard life . . . . . very crusty Maasai children outside their boma in Tanzania. Although literacy in Tanzania is now around 80%, the Maasai elder with us said these particular children were unlikely to see the inside of a school. There was a recent research report indicating western generosity in throwing cast-off clothing at Africans may be stunting economic development as no modern industrial society has ever been built without a textile foundation.

I totally recognize that guy. Cow, I have vague recollections of talking to you via pm when you took your trip to Rome and suggesting that you keep an eye out for him. I would have assumed that you snapped this pic in the vicinity of Campo di Fiori, but I can't quite pinpoint that street. It doesn't look like the Campo area. Kinda more like Pantheon. But I guess that's close. F'n eh! Way to bring back lots of memories...

In the jungle up in the mountains of Taiwan. I later came across a six foot long Chinese cobra right by this same pool hunting these frogs. Scared the bejeezus out of me, just as I accidentally did to it.

Yes, somewhere between Campo and the Pantheon I seem to remember.
Have another one . . . . . this is not a great picture and maybe not even threadworthy BUT it is a slice of life in Rome that has a story.
We were having luncheon at a sidewalk cafe in Trastevere district when the fellow on the right pulls up in his car. He gets out and he starts making calls on his cellphone, a gravelly voice identical to Marlon Brando's Godfather with a more gregarious disposition. He disappears down the street for a while and comes back . . . . then the action starts. Someone comes by and hands him a bundle of bills for a plastic bag full of things. A few more transactions happen in similar fashion before the white-haired chap and the guy on the left show up, the latter giving every appearance of being some sort of bodyguard and our man on the right suddenly turning very deferential. The back of the automobile is flipped up and out come some new suits, the older guy inspecting the merchandise and seemingly not very impressed . . . . . .all of this being very interesting so early in the day from our vantage point of course. A slice of life in Rome.
