QUAD CITY RIGHT WING GRANT STEVENSON NAMED RBK/AHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

SPRINGFIELD , Mass. . The American Hockey League announced today that Quad City Flames right wing Grant Stevenson has been named the Rbk/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending January 20, 2008. Stevenson extended his personal scoring streak to eight games by scoring six goals and adding an assist for seven points in three contests.

Stevenson began the week with a power-play goal in a 3-2 loss to Toronto on Wednesday night, then came back with a goal and an assist in Friday's 3-2 loss to Chicago . On Sunday evening, he tied an AHL season high with four goals and provided all of the Flames' offense in a 4-2 win over visiting Rochester . Stevenson finished the week with a point on seven of Quad City 's eight goals, and he has 10 goals and six assists for 16 points during his eight-game scoring streak.

In recognition of his achievement, Stevenson will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Flames home game.

A fifth-year pro, Stevenson is in his first season with Quad City after four years in the San Jose Sharks organization. The 26-year-old native of Spruce Grove, Alta., is tied for fourth in the AHL with 22 goals and ranks sixth with 47 points while skating in all 44 games for the Flames. He has recorded
71 goals and 108 assists for 179 points in 268 career AHL games, and also has 10 goals and 12 assists in 47 career NHL contests, all with San Jose in 2005-06.

Other nominees for Rbk/AHL Player of the Week include Albany left wing Brandon Nolan, Binghamton left wing Denis Hamel, Bridgeport center Frans Nielsen, Chicago center Alexandre Giroux, Grand Rapids center Mark Hartigan, Hamilton center Corey Locke, Hartford defenseman Andrew Hutchinson, Hershey right wing Joe Motzko, Houston center Adrian Foster, Lowell defenseman Olivier Magnan-Grenier, Manchester goaltender Daniel Taylor, Manitoba center Brad Moran, Milwaukee right wing Andreas Thuresson, Norfolk center Paul Szczechura, Peoria defenseman Jeff Woywitka, Philadelphia center Ryan Potulny, Portland center Geoff Platt, Providence right wing Jeff Hoggan, Rochester right wing Mark Mancari, Rockford goaltender Corey Crawford, Syracuse center Zenon Konopka and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton center Kurtis MacLean.

The Flames visit Rochester on Wednesday night. Game time is 6:05 p.m. central time. The Hayman’s Ace Hardware Pre-Game Show airs at 5:40 p.m. on 93.9 FM WYEC. After the game, stay tuned for the Kinetic Fitness Post-Game Show.

He seems like an NHL-calibre player to me.

Stevenson showed me more in training camp than a lot of the Flames veterans did. He'd be a bottom six guy who can score a bit... unlike many in our current bottom six.

for some wierd reason I think he would have to go thru waivers to go to calgary.
