Not sure if I should just read the entire TV thread, or start this one...so I started this one.

Looking to purchase a new TV, probably in about six months, but I want to start looking now so I can make the best choice later on.

Looking for something 40"+, and something 1080p to take advantage of my HD-DVD player for the 360. I'm not looking to spend 5g, but will look at all options. Thanks guys.

Things change so fast I'm not sure there is a huge benefit to getting a specific recommendation right now. Start learning, but don't make any final decisions until much closer to your buying period.

Good point, but on the other hand, I suppose if there is a specific model of TV that is superb right now, it may be a little cheaper in six months time. But I'll definitely keep my eyes open.

in 6 months, its hard to say, just make sure don't get anything less than 1080p with 120hz.....

Sharp Aquos 64 Series, the 42" is a great deal right now. You can pick it up around $1500 right now.

I'd first decide between LCD and Plasma. This will depend on your needs. I'd say for a quality TV, plasma would be first choice but LCD is on their tail and is more versatile.

What about DLP? I own a 47" Toshiba DLP, and I love it. Any quality 1080p DLPs?

It's all your personal preference, there are "quality" makes and models with every different TV technology. What you have to do is go to Futureshop or Bestbuy and just see what picture you like more. Ask the salesperson for the remotes so you can play around with the PQ settings as well... the demo TV's in the store are pretty much always set to where the brightness is ridiculously high.

Better yet, go to Soundsaround, they have a better viewing environment...

When I was in your shoes I did exactly that and found that I really liked the picture on Plasmas best. I just thought the colors were richer, the blacks were better and whatever was showing just seemed to jump off the screen at me more than the LCD's or DLP's did.

Then I researched the hell out of Plasmas...
