i hate to say it but most times i break down and check out some movie i'm not TOTALLY into (peer pressure, boredom, too much cash [that's a rare one]), i end up wanting to see the previewed movie WAY more.

the internet has taken the sting out a bit, as i typically see the previews before they're on the big screen.

the first memory of this, i believe, was the preview for 'stargate', shown before 'the specialist'.

both movies were big disappointments, but sitting through that super-cliche while thinking of the ancient-egyptian stuff in a sci-fi production...

I love watching them at home, not so much at the theater. I'll stomach 1 or 2, but anymore and it gets stupid, then they hit you with the commercials to take it right over the top.

That does look awesome. I've been victimized by cool trailers before (HULK) but that looks like a cool movie.

A word of advice though -- don't go to the "Production Log" and look at how they are making the movie. Its like my favorite stripper (Sheena) showing me a video of her boob job and then giving me a lapdance; some of the magic is just gone, and I need a couple more scotches to get it back.

the spartans were... special. i remember reading once how they would respond to diplomatic communications with one word answers, like 'if' being 'as if', stuff like that.

haven't seen the old kirk douglas movie, but i'm thinking this really isn't a remake, which is good.

Just to answer the topic title, I actually sorta hate movie trailers for a few reasons. Mostly, because they take up way too much time from my movie experience (now that we have to sit through ads it's even worse), and I don't have a choice if I watch them or not. Also I'm not a fan because they are usually a reader's digest version of the movie and tells me way too much information. Instead of enticing me, they tell me more than I want to know at that stage.

I don't like it when a trailer gives too much info either, but I still like to watch them.

Magnolia had a great trailer. Made me want to see the show but never gave away any spoilers that would ruin the movie.

There has been a thread over this trailer before,

The best thing about it, is that everytime I see the guy saying..

"Madness....This is SPARTA" I always picture Sutter saying something similar to new players.

Tangs walks up to him and says "thanks for signing me - do you guys really hit and fight that much, that seems a little mad?" And Sutter replies "Madness....This is CALGARY" :)

Those are bad trailers. Good ones give you just enough. Comedies though are the worst for that - give away all the best jokes.

But the trailers that are more innovative in their approach are great.

As an example check out this one for a VERY under-rated movie, Strange Days.

Not a single scene from the movie at all. But it gets you wondering what the hell its all about.

The WORST trailer ever was for Double Jeopardy. I read that the studio put together the trailer and when the director saw it (while he was doing interviews) he went ballistic because they included the twist that gave away the whole moment he had the movie build towards.

And I think movie-times should list the time the MOVIE starts, not the time the commercials start (but I do enjoy the trailers, I'm just not sure how to legally word it so the time is when the trailers start).

I agree.

A hannibal love story?

Traumatic events at the hands of the nazi's turned him into what he is?

How are they going to explain his later prominence as a psychiatrist if everyone seems to suspect him of being a murderer at age 22.

Part of what made the character so appealing was you didn't know what made him tick.

It's two separate movies. The first is Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror. In between there are a couple trailers for movies that don't exist including one by Eli Roth (cabin fever, hostel), Rob Zombie, and edgar wright (shaun of the dead). After that Its Quentin Tarantinos Death Proof. Altogether the movie is about 3 hours long.

heres one of the fake trailers titled Thanksgiving. It looks unreal, wish he'd make it inro a real movie. Kinda like Friday the 13th, Halloween, April Fools Day, My Bloody Valentine, etc. Surprised nobody thought of it earlier.

Time for a bump for this thread after seeing one of the funniest movie trailers I can remember from the past couple of years today while at work. Hopefully they save some funny stuff for the actual movie, but Rainn Wilson looks to have picked the perfect role for his big screen comedy breakthrough performance:

http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809909025/video/7698125/

Edit- one more to add, the new film from David Fincher starring Brad Pitt in which the main character ages backwards. The trailer is crap quality, and in spanish, but is still awesome. Has a dreamy, odd effect partly due to the editing and music. Fincher's movies are kickass, too bad we have to wait 6 months to see this one.

Max Payne. Other than say... Tomb Raider, the first MK, and maybe TR2, maybe a hope for another video game to movie that doesn't suck as much as an Uwe boll picture. Although I hope they tone down the corniness of the video game plot points.

I just really hope that they have a descent story. It appears this movie is based on the MAX series while the first one was based on the Marvel Knights (Ennis and Dillon) version. But that trailer is 2 minutes of violence. I really don't want this to be a Rambo type movie. Punisher can be way more than that.

Marvel Knights version (comic anyway) has a better story than MAX but they really effed up the movie by making it PG13.

I'm a huge Kevin Smith fan and I can't wait to see this one.

I love this quote: "look at paris hilton, she's selling fragrances to teens and I'm sure she's legally ######ed."

I love this cast, especially seeing all the familiar faces in the view askew universe with Jason Mewes and Jeff Anderson.

If anyone is interested, Kevin Smith is coming to town again. Tuesday, September 30th at 8pm at the Jubilee Auditorium. I had a chance to see him last time he was here and he's pretty entertaining for a big guy who doesn't do much on stage other than just give long winded answers to question from the fans.

I actually thought it looked like crap based on the first trailer I saw. It has a 100% crtics rating from Rotten Tomatoes which, even though it is early, is saying something. I am pretty excited about this given the fact that I feel he did an amazing job with his character in "The Watchmen".

Trailers for the Clash of the Titans remake (Titans... Will... Clash!!....???) and Prince of Persia are up on the interweb (the usual places... AICN, Youtube, google, etc). Unsurprisingly both looking a bit like the Mummy meets 300 with some LOTR thrown in. That's trailers for ya though, and my arse will be firmly planted in a seat for at least the Titans remake if not both. Sorry if this is a repeat.

^^^^ which it is, doh.

I don't know what to make of the new Clash movie. Worthington will be good, but that music is so bad. Could be better in a more modern type movie, but they needed more orchestral score for the trailer. Here's to hoping that the movie isn't complete tripe. One good part was the syncing of the scorpion stab with guitar. That was pretty awesome.

Prince of Persia? I don't know... Bruckheimer is behind it. He's usually gold for entertaining movies, so I'm on the wait and see boat until I see another trailer. Gyllenhall was miscast though. I would have gone with someone akin to Oded Fehr in my opinion.

I have been so stoked to see Shutter Island - Scorsese! And Leo DiCaprio, who I have thought has been fantastic in everything I have seen him in lately... it was supposed to come out this autumn but now it has been pushed back to February for some reason. February? They release all the leftovers and castoffs in February - what up with that? Anyway, I think it looks like it has potential to be really great - here you go:

HYVrHkYoY80

Also, opening this coming Friday... Fantastic Mr. Fox - great voice cast including Clooney, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson; a lot of the usual suspects from the other work of director Wes Anderson (Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums). Grew up reading Roald Dahl, love everything the man wrote; definitely going to have a look at this movie:

I don't know how well Fantastic Mr. Fox will stick to the actual story by Dahl, but I still think it's going to be an awesome movie. I'm a big Wes Anderson fan.

I'm really worried that Burton will once again butcher the story. He has a tendency to use established franchises to ensure box office hits but then doesn't stay faithful to the source material one bit.

I guess doing "re-imaginings" are kind of his thing though.

And I'm a comic book lover but that just looks ######ed.

Actually the first 30 seconds or so looked great but then pretty much everything with Mickey Rourke and indy cars...bleh.

Hopefully that is just a weak trailer but for some reason I doubt it.

Looks like it will be an entertaining movie, great action scenes. I think Gwenyth Paltrow is the most under rated part of Ironman 1.

My philosophy on comic book movies is that when you watch it you should throw everything you know about that particular comic out the window. Otherwise 9.9/10 times you will be hugely disappointed.

Just enjoy the directors spin on that particular comic, look at it as an action movie and you will enjoy yourself. I have yet to dislike any of the major comic book movies outside of Dare Devil and Ghost Rider with this strategy. But I might be bias seeing as how I am not really a Marvel fan.

Ive heard the books are better than the movies (as is the case usually), I have watched almost every movie, I think, except the last few.

They are alrigh... I wouldnt go out of my way to see them again, nor have I gone out of my way to finish watching the series. Something about 242423 movies in a series just turns me off.

I hate the Harry Potter movies. They are half decent B-movies by themselves but they really do not do the books justice. The books are far and away better.

I've probably said this before, but the Harry Potter movies really suffered from not having the book series completed before they were made. There are so many little things from the first six books that are actually pretty important to book 7 that the movies just didnt include at all. The last movies are either going to be unbelievably awesome, and make you wish all the movies were like it; or it'll be a terrible mish-mash of trying to shoe-horn in previous plot points that were excluded from movies one through six.

When the Harry Potter movies are remade in 50-60 years, those movies are going to be so much better because they will have the benefit of a complete storyline and narrative from which to draw.
