Joining the Club
The structure of the club changed last year, this year will remain the same. Now you have to tryout in order to join the club. We're always looking to add new players, and will highlight the positions we have the most desires to fill above in red.

A player can tryout for 3 games in a 7 day span. For example you can have 3 games on one day, then tryout again 7 days later if necessary; or you can have 1 game each on day 1, day 2, and day 7, and then renew your 3 game tryout sessions on day 8.

The type of players the gms are looking for are those who play the game with good positioning, hockey sense, and team play. Our competitive level is within the elite rankings, so we want to have players that can handle playing against the best clubs that the league has to offer.

PS3 Chat
We use the ps3 chatroom function to organize games. There are two present chatrooms for the club. One is a private chat for players that are on the team. The other, "cpf" is used when players that are trying out are participating. If you want to get in a game or check the status of a current game enter the chat. If you don't have an invite yet request one from another member currently online. Once you get in, it's saved and all you need to do is enter it when you go online to see if there are games going on.

NHL 13 TRYOUTS

Eligibility:

September is open tryout month.

During the entire month of September players who are looking to be on the active roster are encouraged to come out and play. As the first month sees a huge influx of new players who tend to stick around only for the first month priority* will be given to GM's, existing roster players, returning players from previous seasons & players who were on active tryouts from last season in that order.

Please be aware that to start the season there can be anywhere from 6-15 people logged in at once so GM's will do their best to try and give everyone a fair opportunity to play.

*Even though there is a priority system in place GM's will want to evaluate all players so there might be instances where a GM will ask a player to sit a game or two so another player can have a chance at a tryout.

I had a Superstar 3 with a .800 Save percentage on 12, but I played for a team that never won a playoff game and played at least 300 games so I didn't have too much talent, in drop in games I can usually get over .850 (what's the standard?)

I'd like to try out for the team too if possible. I have played every position but I prefer RW, LW, RD or goalie. I was a pretty solid goalie in NHL 12 but I couldn't find a decent club, hopefully they didn't change the goalie mechanics too much this year. We have tried this for about 3 years now. Year 1 the mic system really sucked, year 2 it was better but caused some lag, year 3 it worked just fine and was very useful but didn't stick.

I believe the mics are great, mostly for the entertainment factor

Being that the first month will be packed we will most likely create a room in the Online play and play there. This way we can get up to 12 people playing at once as well as getting credit towards our cards for games played.

From my understanding tryouts are all this month. So you should bring you "A" game now as every game counts, whether it's club or scrimmages. That's what I was told.

During games I look for team chemistry. I also check player grades after every period in games and scrimms...it's a pretty accurate indicator on how you've been playing.

I notice you run around and chase a lot. After I told you not to do that in our scrimmage, and just focus on playing positionally, you were much better. Keep at it!

How would I go about practicing one-timers?? I only play D and I feel like thats an essential part of the game that I am missing. I think lik was telling me that it wasn't as effective this year, however, I feel like holding and trying to manoveure the puck at the line is kind of dangerous and I feel like one-timing passes keeps the flow of the offence going.

I've attempted one-timers on numerous occasions but I always seem to be late on my swing. So any tips, tricks or scenarios where I could practice would be much appreciated!

I noticed I couldn't one-time when my hand-eye stat was really low. After I got a few more cards and brought it to about 75, I was able to one-time again. One-time accuracy is brutal in NHL 13 as well, so keep that in mind. Like stamp said, it seems like low wristers are more effective in producing scoring chances.

I try to only one-time if I'm in my sweet spot.

Ya, once you get your hand eye and slap accuracy up, one timers will be much more effective.

I was whiffing pretty much 100% of the time until I started dumping points into hand eye. My accuracy is still pretty poor, but it'll get better as I build my accuracies.

Until you have solid numbers in these areas, its probably best to take the pass, then shoot low in hopes for a phat rebound.

with how good the cpu g's are at stopping 1 timers, might as well shoot for a rebound. i'm sure the amount of shots that go in will be close to the same but the rebounds should be juicier and easier to pot

Correct. As far as I know OA does give you a wider cone and helps with long, stretch passes quite a bit.

Hand eye effects One timer and pass receptions. Passing attribute helps soften when you hold it to long and helps put more power when you don't hold it long enough.

OA is correct with the cone to increase your passing radius and how far you stretch for a tip or pass.

the view on aggression is split.....personally i've never found it does anything though it probably does make it less likely your player gets intimidated and helps you intimidate others.....others think that it helps when you stick lift players, your player will be more likely to pick up the loose puck

Ok guys final week of tryouts, time to bring your A game as the Gm's will be taking into account what they have seen so far and what they see in this final week now that players have cards.

The main thing holding back new players is positional play.

Food for thought:

For Fwds covering your point and not chasing is extremely important as is playing your side, 2 RW's or 2 Lws kills the breakout

For D playing D is key. Sounds simple but in this years game its very easy to get caught. If you are the first man out of the defensive zone and your a D you will have a hard time making the team. The pinch in one time slapper is all but dead this year. Hold your line and only pinch when you count 5 opposite jerseys low.

We have some great Dmen and great fwds and when we all play our positions we can be very effective.

Ya that's a bit excessive, since I've screwed up before in the past and done playoff games by accident. It's something that anyone can easily slip up on if no one is paying attention.

I've resent a invitation if you wanted to rejoin club before the GMs do actual cuts in the next coming days.

If anyone's interested, a team has dropped out of the GM Connected league and will need a replacement GM. It's a fairly fun league and doesn't really take up too much of your time if you don't want it to.

I don't think I'll be devoting as much time this year as I did with previous years. Honestly, I'm not really enjoying NHL13 that much. There are just so many flaws that I can't stand:
- Goals that should go in, rarely do
- Goals that shouldn't go in, go in often
- The skating engine makes playing as a defenseman unbearable and boring
- Super poke-check
- Removal of vision control (WTF)
- My skater's boosts are constantly being removed when I log in
- Not enough people online to play lately

I'll still try to come on and play games here and there.

P.S. you should all get Borderlands 2. It's a blast playing multiplayer co-op.

I am a left d-man, good positioning and I love to shoot for rebounds. My guy has a really quick snap shot and I shoot low, I don't always have A+ because the game counts dump outs as giveaways but I always play position and make sure if there is a rebound I clear it. 2-way dman that focuses on keeping the puck in the offensive zone and clearing the net in our own zone while staying in position.

They are, so are dump ins. Big flaw in the grading system IMO

On a side note I'm down for some playoffs.

Pretty sure they do count as turn overs, as the commentators will some times say that the player "turned the puck over AGAIN!!?!?!"

I just played a game where I blocked about 10 shots, dumped it out maybe 15 times, slid and stopped 5 or 6 cross crease passes and got A+/C-/B. Worse was I was about to finally get my +/- way up winning 11-1 in another game and it DC'ed with 3 minutes.

i find sliding isn't really necessary anymore since your guy with enough def awareness and stick checking will get rid of it anyways and you won't waste time peeling yourself off the ice.

I slide when it's 2 or more on 1 and the guy is likely to make a pass. It makes it way easier on the goalie on the odd man rushes because he can focus on the shot, it works a lot. It most definitely has a use, I always get the "good job taking away the passing lanes out there" comment and my inbox is full of people inviting me to play/saying I'm good at D.
I'm not the best passer in the game, but I am really good at never leaving the goalie out to dry, I feel like the goalies sidekick.

Pretty much sums up how I felt about the game. I actually traded zit in for Forza Horizon and went back to playing NHL 12. I just hated 13 so much. Anyone else on here playing 12?

Nope.

We are all still playing our EASHL 13 league, including lik. Last tuner fixed the issues. I think I am safe in saying an EASHL team playing 12 would have some issues getting games ;).

Same system as last year. Try outs to make the team. We actually are still doing tryouts and haven't made cuts yet.

Loaded with fwds right now best chance to get into a game is as a D but accepting all positions for tryouts.

hmmm, what did the update fix? I think what drove me nuts the most was my D feeling like they were in quick sand. Even when the computer controlled them they were like pylons. Just got frustrated with it and went back to 12 because I was really good at it, maybe I'll buy another copy of 13 if they've fixed some of the issues. I don't need an online code anymore lol

My friends and I have a club, but there's only 4 of us, so it's rare that we're on at the same time together, so often we play games as a pair or a trio. Would love to have more guys involved, maybe we could combine this CP club with ours or something. I try to play nightly.

The CP team normally goes by tryout but this year us GMs haven't really kept up to that system.

Now that hockey is back I'm sure more people will be playing again so we might have to slide back into that format so we do not get over loaded each night with players. Right now the team has about 10 Fwds and 3-4 Dmen. Some of the regular Fwds have even stopped logging in because of the log jam up front.

I am all for more players as it seems like the teams activity has dropped drastically, Perhaps some of the other GMs could weigh in on if we could take on 4 more players.
