Just a reminder that we are back on-air tonight for our live show.

We will talk about the Flames giving up the division and what that means going forward, and we also have an interview with the spokesman for the group trying to bring the Flames AHL affiliate to Abbotsford.

Play McElhinney in the first of a back-to-back, get Kipper in there for the second one.

I don't have the most faith in McE (and not a huge fan of his) but I don't think it would exactly be "throwing a game away" to give him a start.

If he's really that bad, or the Flames are that bad in front of him, he shouldn't be anywhere near the team.

Sarich might be the Flames' most steady defenseman (fewest highs and lows) all season.

Bad injury.

4000 to break even? that's a lot higher than other markets... but if they really do have the demand there, then why not.

To put it in perspective the Hamilton Bulldogs play in Copps Coliseum. If you've ever seen that giant toilet bowl of a building you'll know the MTS center in Winterpeg is quite the exception compared to most buildings.

Sort of OT but are CP interviews considered "on the record"? I remember a while back when KK was online answering questions he specifically said that it was off the record.

Could a media type quote what someone said in a CP interview?

Anything I do is "on the record". I think online chats is a different beast - but even those should be considered "on the record" so they are documented.

Good question though.

I am trying to position the show as a legitimate broadcast - so when I deal with any potential guests I stress that we are professional and easy to deal with.

Not sure if you'll be able to answer this but:

Let's say Cammy has an account on CP and posts that he loves Calgary and will stay for $4 mil per season.

Next day Bruce not only mentions the story but quotes him on it. Is that considered "on the record"? Is it only off the record if the interviewee asks for it to be?

Are only media people technically on/off the record? Like let's say Cammy tells me that same thing from above, but says he'll only tell me if it is "off the record" and I come home and post it. Can I get in trouble? Is there any legal standing to "off the record"? Or is it just journalistic integrity at stake?

I hear the term mentioned a fair bit but I'm not really sure what it entails. My only understanding of the whole thing is if someone told a reporter something that was off the record and they printed it anyways they'd have to publish a retraction right?

Thanks.

They wouldn't necessarily have to publish a retraction - the price a reporter pays for something like that is that athletes stop talking to them on or off the record. Or the player could even request that media member be barred from the locker room.

There's been a few cases where reporters thought something was "on the record" and the athlete thought it was "off the record" and after the information got published it got ugly. One involved Moises Alou - where a reporter published a story about how Aliu soaked his hands in urine to toughen them up so he wouldn't have to use batting gloves. The reporter printed it and Alou freaked because he thought it was something private he had been talking about "off the record".

In radio its easy - the rule we use is we start recording, tell the person we are recording and have them agree on tape to the interview. Makes things very simple. For print its more complex and now with the web things are more confusing.

I would say if an athlete posted something on here under their real name its fair game since its in the public domain, but the reporter would want to protect themselves by confirming the identity. Going to print/air with anything you've got strictly from a forum is dangerous business.

Sorry - this ended up being an awfully long reply - but it is an interesting topic.

Just listening to the show now, and I agree that 4000 season tickets to break even is a little high. For comparison, when Saint John had their season-ticket drive in the 2000-2001 season, the requirement was 2500 in an arena that only held about 6000 people.

I realize that I've made a lot of posts regarding Saint John over my time here, and I've really tried to bite my tongue when some things are mentioned because I don't want to get the reputation of being "the bitter poster from Saint John", but seeing Calgary move the farm team around as much as they have since leaving here really leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I'm totally aware that hockey is a business and that the local ownership was unable to bear the financial burden at the time, but it's frustrating to lose a team you cheered-on for 10 years and then see the next two farm teams averaging in the neighbourhood of 1500-2500 a night in attendance and being pulled out because, come to find out, they aren't financially viable.

I want to make it clear I have nothing against the fans in Omaha or Quad Cities; I think it's great that they got to experience AHL hockey. And I sincerely hope that the farm team in Abbotsford sticks and establishes itself, because having a team made up of players that you can cheer at your home rink one night, and then watch on Hockey Night in Canada the next night is a really special experience.

I just really miss my Flames :(

Very good show tonight! I appreciated how both you guys examined the Flames position from all angles and weren't afraid to be tough but also fair. I agree with D'arcy that I can see them taking 3/4 against Edmonton, it comes down to the Minny and Vancouver game. Also Grant, good points about the suggestion that Chicago might be better to play in the playoffs due to the Mason factor going for Columbus.

I would rather play against Mason than Khabibulin. I forget what his career record is against Calgary but he has been dominant.
