View Full Version : CP Radio Guests: Long-time forum posters?

I suggested this in the pilot thread and I thought it was worth rehashing.

My show idea is simple, every week invite a long-time forum poster onto the show to discuss that week's topics. You could do it in the order of when that member joined the forum, filtering out inactive members of course.

Guest list (http://forum.calgarypuck.com/memberlist.php?order=ASC&sort=joindate&pp=30)

And before anyone gets their panties in a wad over long-distance phone bills, we could just setup a Skype (http://www.skype.com) conference with Jiri, Bingo and the invited guest basically for free. The guest would obviously have to get their own headset and be computer savvy enough to use Skype.

Obviously the show should try to get more high profile guests as well, but this would be a great source of content, as CP posters have been providing quality content for years now.

Just an idea. Thoughts?

I'm a big believer that CP posters should be among the guests we have - however having live guests over the phone present a real challenge. I did a lot of fooling around with skype and other software during our break and found that it simply doesn't work for a number of reasons - including too many demands on the computer (which means it occasionally craps out the live feed altogether) and delays between the skype conversation and what the listener hears live.

What I've learned is the laptop's #1 priority has to be running the show through u-stream to ensure we don't lose the live feed. That means that any phone interviews have to be pre-recorded ahead of time and then played back during the live show.

I don't know if that all makes sense, tried to explain the best I could.

That all being said - if folks are interested in coming on the show in person that is something a lot more possible. Anyone interested can PM me and we can chat about it more.

Hi Jiri, I've done some webcasting in my day and know that if you have the right tools you can do some pretty cool stuff. Here's a guide (http://jefflebow.net/node/97) detailing how to do webcasting with Skype using an app called "Virtual Audio Cables" which bridges all the audio feeds together for streaming and/or recording. In addition to this, you can setup a SkypeIn account where a guest could call into the show by phone, but that's not free (although it's not terribly expensive, either).

I would recommend it to anyone, Sitting down with Jiri and Bingo to discuss hockey is a blast, and its always nice to get a beer in with them during the show.

I've done a lot of these types of shows with Jiri, mostly on the Stampeders, and once on the Flames and he does a good job of coaching you through topics while your on the air.

There are certain posters that I would love to listen to. Locke of course, Firefly, Fotze, Reggie, Sample would be fun. Displaced and Hoz. I would also love to hear Stang on the show.

Jim Sirgil should be a top priority guest as well.

I dont trust you. Does Jiri have a pit in his basement that employs a crude lever and pulley system in order to lower an raise baskets filled with various skin care products?

Because if he does....:fist:

I think it'd definitely be neat, and whenever they're hurting for real guests I'd take a turn.;)

Not a bad idea. I may be interested in a guest spot at some point if its to be a regular occurance.

Edit: Of course, only if I get one of Jorje's infamous enchilada platters as a parting gift.

Perhaps the break music for the next show should be the mexican hat dance.:D
