View Full Version : iTunes DRM Kills Babies

So I finally caved and bought an iPod. It's pretty good, I'll give it that. Even iTunes, which I used to hate, has a lot of cool features now.

I can put SD cards with MP3's in the nav in my car which is great because you can throw a few gigs of music on some cards, throw them in the car and you are good (the ipod hookup for my car sucks... no track names, can only read 5 play lists).

I've been buying some music off of iTunes because it's convenient, and I like tho throw some $ the way of artists that I like. Now I'm paying the price for it because most of the albums I've bought aren't iTunes plus, so I can't play the f#$*ing things in my car.

Does anything exist for iTunes 8.02 or whatever the newest one is that will strip the DRM off these tracks? I find it absolutely rediculous that I can't play albums that I paid money for in my own frigging car.

And they wonder why people pirate...

Burn to CD, rip from CD.

Other than that, I'm not sure if JHymn has kept up with their DRM stripping.

Bobblehead's suggestion is definitely the easiest. A lot of people get antsy about it because it technically knocks the quality down somewhat, but I'm not enough of an audiophile to notice the difference.

The DRM for the music is nothing like the DRM for the movies and tv shows though. Wow that is hard to get rid of. I might have to actually install windows on my Mac and buy a program just to do that.

He's talking about stripping the DRM from movies and TV shows bought in iTunes... not ripping DVDs to put into iTunes.

Yeah. Up until today, I was never really that worried about something like that. All my computers are Macs, so I don't mind iTunes.

The problem now, though, is I've got a co-worker interested in watching Californication... and so now I'm trying to figure out how to make a copy Season 1 (which I bought through Tunes) so that she can watch it.


...which means, I'm now in the same boat as Russic. :p

I find burning a CD not convenient at all, and a waste of a CD that will go straight into the garbage.

I think I'm going to boycott all non-iTunes plus audio and just torrent it like I should have in the first place.

Not having seen it but having heard about it, the obvious solution is to have your co-worker over to your place to watch it. PANTS OPTIONAL!!:w00t:

Haha yes. 99/100, that would be the correct solution...

However, this co-worker is 30 years older than me. Not in that "Demi Moore" older way, either. :p

If music is released from a decent label, it's on iTunes plus (DRM free, high quality). There are also rumours floating around today that Apple might be on the verge of offering most of the other label's music on their plus store (basically removing nearly all DRM content from the store.

If it's released by a lame label, buy the CD and rip it. Or try Amazon's MP3 store.
