Here's the deal . . . . I have a DVR now but an old DVD recorder that's not up to snuff for hi-def and what not.

So, I want to get a new DVD recorder that can upscale my old recordings but also record onto a disc SD or to the hi-def level.

Because I have a DVR, I assume I wouldn't actually need the DVD recorder to have a hard drive since the DVD recorder can serve that function and that would shave, probably a hundred or so bucks off what I need.

Occasionally I might want to permanently "tape" a move - hence putting it on disc - plus compile music videos, the latter likely the principal purpose.

Any recommendations? I assume I'll be spending in the area of $250 to $450.

With the hard drive, you can edit out commercials and such. No idea if a DVR can do that.

But If you're willing to spend 450 on this, you can get a great DVD recorder with hard drive. Sorry I can't be helpful, just wanted to make a few comments.
