“The biggest thing for me is who you work for and who you work with,’’ Allen said. “I won’t compromise my thoughts and my values just to be an assistant coach in the NHL. If it doesn’t happen for me, it doesn’t happen. It has got to be the right situation with the right people.”
Ahh, a man after my own heart! I love it.

I remember that there was a show on center ice a few years ago that followed the Flames ECHL affiliate in Jonestown for a season. There were two names that stood out. One was Allen who wasn't a yeller and screamer as a coach, and once made a pre game speech to the team with a beer in his hand.
The other player was Jody Shelly who was the teams prominant cement head. I give him lots of credit for getting to the NHL because in the ECHL, he had a lot to work on.

I've got to say that Allen is one of just the nicest guys I've ever met around hockey. Again at the Christmas party, he was just standing around at the glass watching the players and their interaction with the fans.
Then we started chatting....about everything! The kid (age 6) came off the ice once to get gloves and Allen was intent as he watched the kid skate back on the ice. Very complimentary about specific things, so he was obviously watching. When I told him it was the result of the local mites program, he went into asking specifics about that.
Very smart guy and seemed extremely comfortable in his own skin. This article explains that....I'm glad he's on our side!!
